Only if you're a kleptomaniac/hoarder.

I've never even reached 10k gold in about several hundred hours of playtime.

(I've never played this game like Fallout... By my first 10 hours in Fallout I'd have 50k+ caps.)

I have 10,000 on me just as walking around money. Whenever I go back to my Quarters, I put whatever I've picked up beyond the 10k in the safe; there's about 270,000 in there now. And I'm not at all a hoarder, and certainly not a thief - I'd donate virtually all of it to the Temple of Mara with a happy heart, if it wouldn't take me several hours to do so (why can you only donate such a low sum?). I genuinely can't fathom how you can have acquired so little.

For those who think money is easy in Skyrim, try this: play a pure mage who is "good" (i.e., doesn't loot, steal, etc.). You will rapidly be disabused of the notion that money is easy, believe me. :) Being a mage (an honest one, anyway) is enormously expensive and Beth did not create a genuine economic system (not that they ever do, but each game keeps getting worse as far as a believable economy is concerned).

Sure, if you play a warrior or stealth/thief/assassin, money will be easy, even if you buy equipment. Mages are extremely expensive due to being forced to buy spells, buy stuff to disenchant, buy ingredients, etc. These actions can be delayed or avoided altogether for warriors and thieves, but not mages.

By good do you mean he can't loot dungeons that he has to conquer as part of quests? If not there is no reason a Mage, mine is parked at level 46 for being OP, cannot acquire all sorts of stuff to disenchant and considerable amounts of gold and jewels.

Gold... any decent alchemyst makes loads of it. My level 62 Breton has around 2 million gold stashed in it's Solitude's house.

My new character is level 20 and is not broke either, just invest in alchemy and gather/buy all ingredients and start experimenting, soon enough you start getting profit, Paralyse Slow and Invisibility potions give a lot of gold, and also mixing effecst. Wiht almost all perks i make 2.5k gold potions, other solution is enchanting, early on you can use petty and lesser gems with absorve effects to make some decent money.

I find that the banish effect on weapons makes much more.

That's how I do it. It's a pain to sell a bunch at a time though unless you have the Thieves Guild fences unlocked with their full potential amounts available (or you've taken the Speech perks and invested in merchants).

Thieving and banditry can be a great way to earn money, you just have to know the right places to hit and the right people to murder or pickpocket.

Places:
Alchemy stores, Pawn shops, Castles/keeps/Longhouses, guard barracks, Battle-Born house, Shatter-Shield house, Cruel-Sea house, Snow-Shod house.

People:
Jarls, shop owners, Guards, travelers, wealthy citizens and clans like Battle-Borns, Snow-Shods, Grey-Manes, Cruel-Seas, Shatter-Shields, Mjoll and Aerin, Bolli and his wife, etc

I have 5 characters, one with over 200K, the others all over 100K. Gold is the easiest thing to get in this game.

I actually cut back from what I normally do (running dungeons and selling all the loot); and now only collect money I find on bodies or burial urns, and even that is plenty.

Guess that's not your type of play, and I can understand that, but please don't complain about something you can control and is easily the most obtainable goal.

I play to where I don't feel too poor but I am not rich either. I make sure I don't get rich by passing on exploits; with alchemy in particular since I am an alchemist, I don't want to make all of the potions that I wouldn't use and sell them just for profit, instead I safekeep the ingredients or sell the unused ones. As for making sure I am not poor, I am a theif. I also invest my perks into speech to insure I can get a good price on items.

I don't fast travel, so if I make sure I don't over enucumber myself to the point of collapsing and jumping on my horse to ride to town. Hoarding for me gets to be to overwhelming, I refrain from this by not picking up things I won't have a use for. the item will be sold, kept or disposed of(left on the body/chest/place of discovery)

I am sitting at a steady 17k gold at level 25 which seems to fit perfectly with my style of play. I own the house in Riften and forsee a future in Solitude or Markarth with a spouse.

I genuinely can't fathom how you can have acquired so little.

I don't pick up armor or weapons from enemies. I only forge my own, only my own and without improvements.

I rent a room every night and pay three times a day to acquire three different types of food items and one bottle of mead per meal. (IE: Steak, potato, sweet roll, Nord mead)

I'm a Nord, it's against my honor to loot from my fallen kin. No looting urns, no chests in a barrow, no looting off the Draugr. For that matter, I don't steal from the dead in general. I'd like to sit aside Ysgrammor in the great mead hall of Sovngaarde.

I mine my own ores and only what I'll need for my armors or weapons. I hunt exclusively for the leather I'll need for my gear. I chop wood for an income and in a non-exploitative manner.

I don't use potions, nor do I buy potions, nor make potions.

I'm a Nord, I don't use magic; I do not enchant. I do not hoard enchanted magical gear to sell off. In fact, I don't go anywhere near the stuff.

I give the beggars a septim and I donate to Mara at 50sep per visit.

I could go on and on and on, but I'll spare you all.

I agree. I'm not really trying and on both my characters, i've been practically swimming in gold after a few hours.

My first char had over $500k when i put him on ice.
My current one has only $30k on her since i just bought a fully furnished home in Solitude and i bought a whole stack of grand soulgems to make myself a new set of enchanted armor and weapons.

17k Gold?

I'm at lvl 43, and if I had that kind of gold, I'd spend it all on training.

Right now I must have about little more than 1000... :P
