Old Movies From Your Childhood

Post » Wed Aug 24, 2011 1:57 pm

I just got a big heap of nostalgia when I saw Bambi again. It made me think, when I was a kid I used to watch this movie over and over and over again. I loved it. Loved it more than I loved all other movies at the time. Only my Mamaw had it, and every time I went to her house I would sit in the living room and watch it. I really think I spent like 200+ hours watching, but I've no idea. For some reason, I just thought of the twitterpated scene. I wasn't even thinking of Bambi, but somehow that scene crept into my thoughts. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mf4v4Yunm4s&NR=1

So, what are some movies or cartoons that you used to be in love with as a child?

Toy Story. When I watched the ending of the 3rd one, I was close to tears.

Charlette's Web (1973)... before anybody gets any bright ideas, I was 3 at the time. can't really find a good link for that.

Also liked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0ahJPxfGp4&feature=related as well. I think I was 10 at the time.

I'm sure there's a ton of others, but am drawing a blank.

EDIT: Wrong link

They hadn't been invented that long ago.

Oh alright, I used to enjoy Tom & Jerry, though apparently it's considered "too violent" for today's youth, or some such malarky. As for films, my mind has gone utterly blank for some reason. I mean some reason other than it always being like that.

The Doctor. Lots and lots of travels with The Doctor.
Farthing Wood.

Oh, and The Lost Boys.
Huh. No wonder I turned out so weird, with that and a dark cabaret Ma and tabletop and RP nerd Pa.
The Dark Chrystal

the Secret of NYMH

Warriors of the wind/Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind

Those too. And suddenly I don't feel old after having read the previous posts. Thanks. :hehe:

Bambi used to freak me out as a kid, as did A Troll in Central Park.

My favorite movies as a kid were: The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, The Fox and the Hound, The Great Mouse Detective, and Rescuers Down Under.

I've never actually watched Bambi.

I think I was more interested in TV than film, anyway. The Silver Brumby, Animals of Farthing Wood, The Demon Headmaster, The Moomins etc.

I blame the latter for my love of tall houses and tundra.

Cartoon - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, was way into them, had the bed sheets, toys, Halloween costumes, ect.
Movie - 3 Ninjas, probably one of my most watched movies back then, that I can remember.

This was a big one. Plus me and my buds were just talking about this. Here are some cheesy ones (but were decent in the day):

Howard the Duck
Beetlejuice
Legend
Critters
The Last Dragon
....

Feel free to laugh :P

Oh yea it was. They showed that movie in every grade during my elementary years. We are talking about the Gene Wilder one I hope. The Johnny Depp one was unbearable.

Others:
Stand By Me
Big Trouble In Little China
Lost Boys...of course
Bloodsport
Gymkata

Star Wars, and every time I hear some kid mention how they like the prequels better because the old movies are all boring, I die a little inside. :P

Other childhood favorites would have to be Indiana Jones, Goonies, Princess Bride, Willow, and Ghostbusters. Oh, and the Neverending Story, though that was when I was much younger. :D

Bloodsport

A movie from your childhood?

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. I [censored] loved this movie. It's way too awesome to be a children's movie.

Ah...those movies are making me nostalgic right now.

I was only 8 when Bloodsport came out. I had already seen Bruce Lee stuff by that time. Had a cool looking cover in the rental store and begged my gramps to rent it for me. Yea, parents were liberal. I think I turned out alright....
