The game looked amazing. The graphics were awesome, gameplay was fun and varied, and like all Elder Scrolls games you had almost infinite possibilities right out of the intro. About 15 hours in, I started to notice a bit of lag. No big issue, as I was used to Fallout 3 and NV's constant lag, stutters and freezes. But eventually I got fed up as the framerate made the game literally unplayable. It looked like I was playing in slow motion, only the slow motion was playing at half speed. So I'm stuck creating new characters every time I get more than 15 or so hours into the game. But to top it all off, even on newly created characters the load times are absolutely ridiculous! At best, the loading time is only 30 seconds to a minute. But more commonly, I'm stuck waiting 2-3 minutes every time I fast travel, or enter/exit a building, cave, or town.
So what choice did I have? I took the loss of $64, and bought the PC version. Only to find out that the PC version is just as expensive! For every single new release I've seen, the PC version is ALWAYS $10 cheaper. But I bought it anyways, only to find out that I NEED steam to download and play it! I absolutely hate steam. I know many, if not most PC gamers would agree that they hate automatic patches on PC games, as some versions work better than others, or some mods are only compatible with older versions.
So not only did they release a game that doesn't even work on the PS3, they are forcing PC users to use Steam, and they must have an internet connection to download this offline game, even if they purchase it in a store. If Bethesda doesn't fix this lag issue with the PS3, and rethink their actions about sales they are going to forever lose a customer. But I don't think it'll just be me. I've seen the outcry both from friends, and online in multiple forums about the broken PS3 game, and being forced into using steam. The sad thing is not only will the loss of customers hurt Bethesda, but it will hurt the gamers too, because we're not able to play what is the best rpg in a long time, and possibly for a long time to come.
