One of these DLC's needs to be SCARY

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:41 am

There were actually no real overtly supernatural elements. It was just eery, and very nicely done. :)

I guess l'm just stubborn about it. Like I said, I'd like there to be an explanation but I have a hard time explaining away everything in Dunwich. Point Lookout makes it even more overt by providing a history for the book.
The hallucination I can put down to a pocket of gas. The poltergeist phenomena I can explain by noting that the building is in rough shape and settling. The madness of the Dunwich employee I can explain by exposure to the sonic borer. The altar/statue in the basemant? Carved by the insane employee, maybe?
Jamie's rapid ghoulification/madness once he found the book, which he describes as warm to the touch? Maybe the book is (was?) emitting high radiation?
This stuff can be explained, though the conclusions are dependent on an unlikely confluence of events. I really think the writers meant for us to accept it as supernatural, though. Go read the holofiles and computer entries on the WIKI & maybe you'll see what I mean.
Point Lookout pretty much underscores the supernatural angle, though. I have absolutely no explanation as to why the book would burst into flames like that.

BTW, this is just for discussion, you know. I don't have an axe to grind about Fallout 3; I don't think the supernatural fits the setting but I'm not incensed by it or anything. If you think I'm one of those tiresome purist types, I can prove I'm not -- Mothership Zeta is my favorite F3 DLC.

Survival horror is actually usually clausterphobic because you're often hiding from something.

Take this into consideration:
If the Fallout games will never stray a slight centimeter off the 50's upbeat, post apocalypse humanity rebuilding theme, then eventually the series will fail because it will always be the same. DLC can add new things to the game while the main one will still have the original feeling. Not to mention DLC is optional and you don't need to buy it.

Thats the series formula, looks the BOS, jumped the style of the series, total fiasco, looks FO1, FO2, FO3, and NV, they uses the same formula,, never failed, DLC first of all, was the first great mistake of the gaming company, as for many people dont have Internet to use it, the expansion packs could be better, now that we have DVD Blu Rays

personally find horror subjective, unless the DLCs whole point is to top the subtle horror of Dead Space/2 and "scare" you to -death-. Take a gander at an old post on a similar topic, and I might of had a spot of adderoll to help me:

Cant wait for this game to come out, its gonna scare me half to death!

Although i am a fan of survival horror, no. Deadmoney was a half-assed attempt at scary, and i really do not want anymore half-assed DLC's.

Plasma Caster is the old Plasma Rifle.

Plasma Caster is the old Plasma Rilfe. (Its not a Minigun)

That Gun is the Old Pistol from the old games too

Now we need the ORIGINAL Leather Armor

Oh sweet Bruce Willis YES!!
I'd buy this for 200 MSP.
I'd buy another one for 200 MSP for ED-E as well.

The trouble with new vegas is that its easy to get new weapons and in dead money you dont really feel scared just irritated. The ghost people arnt particulalry scary.
Mind you the only good horror moment i ever saw in fallout was the dunwhich building, maybe fallout just isnt good at horror.

Read the Tim Cain quote, it isn't Fallout's objective, desire, need, or motivation to be scary.

I don't care if a DLC ends up being eerie, creepy, scary, whatever, but I don't want them to do it for the sake of scaring their audience and providing cheap thrills. Sure, the series has to change some for it to remain worth playing, but I think fundamentally, horror/scariness is a theme in the Fallout series.
