One of these DLC's needs to be SCARY

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:24 am

Fallout 3 always felt more like a survival horror RPG to me. Areas like the subways, the Dunwich building, and the Point Lookout DLC were scarier to me then anything I saw in Alan Wake (And I love that game). Even being in an abandoned house with no enemies was pretty damn creepy.

While I absolutely love New Vegas, it isn't as scary as F3. It has some areas that are a little creepy like some of the vaults but nothing near the level of a place likke, say, Old Olney. Dead Money seemed like it was trying to be a bit scary but I didn't find it so.

So I'm hoping that one of the future DLC's will be straight-up horror.

Agreements? Ideas? Opinions?

That's why I said it "felt" like one to me. I didn't say it was one.

Reading comprehension FAIL.

And you can't deny that the game has some survival horror elements in the gameplay and presentation.

Yeah Fallout 3 felt like a survival horror rpg to you, but New Vegas didn't right?
Neither did the older games.

Dunwich wasn't scary. It was a chore.

But the "Dunwich Espansion" mod on the other hand....

I loved the Dunwich Building, but Dead Money is better survival horror on every level. The only way that Fallout 3 can be survival horror is during the early parts of the game, before you have any decent equipment or high-level skills. Once you can one-shot every ghoul without fear of damage, the tension kinda leaves. Dead Money is spooky and tense regardless of your skill level or gearset.

Nope, I don't think there is anything horrifying in this game, I just think shocking.
The Survival part I do agree with, and I'm glad.

I agree with you 100% but to be honest this is a " post-apocalyptic" Rpg, it should have some facets or survival horror/suspense because thats what it would feel like if it happened and lets be honest this isnt "The book of Eli" there are mutants and other monsters in the Wastes, that you should be afraid of.
But if your looking for a game that'll scare the socks right off of your feet get Dead Space 2 at the end of the month, until then enjoy New Vegas as much as you can.

He's not saying the whole game is, just some areas such as the subways of DC.

Fallout was never really scary was it? Got the odd jump at a ghoul or deathclaw sneaking up on me but is that the same thing as scary?

I guess it all depends on the player, I know some people who cant even watch movies like Friday the 13th, they have to leave the room. It all depends on what "you" think scarey is. I know I found it quite freaky and abit scary in the subways, never new when a ghoul was gonna pop up out from behind me, and the echoing from the ghouls contributed to that I think.

I never thought FO3 was scary. Though there was a huge car crash right in front of my house when I was playing it once. THAT scared the crap out of me.

Dunwich wasn't scary. I never quite understood why people thought it was..

Becuase it's dark or something? The whole part where your compass will tell you where enemies are doesn't exactly make things scary.

If you want a scary game, go play Silent Hill 2.

Doom 3? The only thing scary about that game was the horrid parallax effects.

A post apocalyptic-nuclear holocaust game should feel horrifying.
New Vegas presented none of these feelings.
When I'm out in the middle of nowhere, by myself, surrounded by mutated freaks that wish to kill me...I should be spooked.
