If you like bullet sponges.
Unbalanced like hell perks.
Skill all being max with no character specialization at all.
A story which just feels like a dragged out final battle.
And an anti-climactic ending.
Then I'm sure you're gonna love it, but I wouldn't say that you'd have good taste.

You sure are stuck to that opinion of yours, aren't you?

You really like to emphasize it's my opinion don't you?

I have to agree that most stuff about Broken Steel was pretty annoying. The Overlords, Reavers and Albino's, the raising of the level cap, all imbalanced.

But I did like the Presidential Metro. Man that was cool. They shouldn't make the same mistakes in this game though. If they wanted you to be able to play after Hoover Dam, they should've done so in the vanilla game.

Well, they'll still provide more lore to the Fallout universe and have some slight connections to the main game. (Elijah, Veronica's former girlfriend Christine, Ulysses, Courier Six)
So in the long run it might provide something to the main game.
But as it currently stands I see it as it's own little game and not part of the main game.

Best way I can explain it is this way:
You know how when in some games you can continue past the main quest but nothing changes?
Well, when that happens to me I'm like ".... Now what?"
Same thing happened here.
In Dead Money I was not The Courier.
I was The Puppet, and I completed The Puppets own little story and it wrapped itself up nicely.
But after that I'm thrown back into the main game as The Courier and I wonder "So what was the point of me going there? What has changed?"
Nothing.
Nothing at all.
I can give Veronica a holotape but that's pretty much it.
Oh and I get some fancy new toys to play around with.
But did this epic SAW inspired adventure actually serve a purpose to my character?
Nope.

This DLC would have served a better purpose if it was like that Darkspawn DLC for Dragon Age, where we get to play as a new character.
That would have made more sense to me, to play as a completely new character, The Puppet.
Where the story starts from scratch and by the end it's the end.
Only connection I can find is the "Things of the future" thingie where it's vaguely explained we have a connection to Ulysses.
And those are only subtle hints which could easily have been dropped.
All they're there for is to create suspense (which they did a good job with) but they don't serve much purpose to the actual storyline in Dead Money.

So Dead Money, was fun as hell, great story, great atmosphere, great writing, great characters but I didn't feel like I was The Courier when I entered it or left it.
Again, when leaving it I had a question mark on my forehead.
Now what?
I did this epic adventure and now I'm back to hunting gecko's and doing courier jobs for NCR/Killing NCR?
Would have been better if we were a new character and the story ended right there IMO. (With new items added to main game merchants/generic NPC's of course)

/Opinion.

I've said before on here that I've liked all of the DLC's so far in Fallout 3 and New Vegas but, you are spot on here.
I loved dead money and it really wasn't what I was expecting from a Fallout game at all, it was nice to be taken from my comfort zone and change the game around a bit but, Why must me lose our inventory? Your' right, we might aswell be a new character and it has no realtion to the main game bar a few posters here and there and a couple of dialogue's. Nothing changes in the world at all and the events feel insignificant.
I think it's a missed oppertunity and DLC that ties into the main quest and sotry will always be better to play and more interesting. I want to be my character, I want to feel like my character and all of the things I've bought, found, killed for and spent hours building up I want to take with me and use!

When the main quest/story is so good, why not add to it or atleast relate the Siera madre to it in some way and have the ability to revisit afterwards maybe under NCR or BoS control?

Like I said before I loved Dead Money but you are spot on, we need continuation, story relevance and aftermaths!

I can really understand why the DLC wouldn't affect the MQ in Fallout New Vegas. There are so many chances to change the entire landscape through your actions in the MQ, it would probably be incredibly confusing and a bit difficult for the game designers to make changes in your Main Game based on optional DLC.

So they cant add Dean domino as an optional npc I see who has a job in the strip. Thats not a major change at all.
Neither would having dog/god/merge as a random encounter in the wastes.

I agree with you here. They did such a great job of introducing and defining the characters I'm sad that I won't see them again.

Another thing that bothered me:

Why would The Courier want to go there?

We have the radio signal, sure.
But when I played Dead Money I heard over and over from Dean and Elijah that I was just as greedy as them and followed the signal to the grand treasure and want it just as much as they do.
And you know what?
I don't.
I frankly don't give two flying [censored] about the damn treasure.
I always prayed for a dialogue option that said "I don't care about the treasure, I just want to get out of here... I want to go home."
But it never showed. (It was like a month since I last played it though so if there is an option for this then I withdraw this statement, but even if there was a statement like this then it would make less sense for our character to want to go there.)
It's like it was expected that everyone had to be as greedy as they were, that everyone followed that radio signal with foam at their mouth and stars in their eyes.
Made no sense to me.
Only reason I could find for a realistic reason for The Courier to want to go there is if he/she is annoyed at the signal and wants to turn it off for lulz.
Again, this was not for The Courier, he/she had no reason to go there in the first place except for maybe a strong hate of radio signals and a deep passionate desire to turn them off.

Oh wait! I thought up another reason! If we roleplay as Shaggy from Scooby Doo then it'd make sense since it's a mystery signal. :teehee:

As for The Puppet, if this has been like the Darkspawn DLC for DAO then the ending where we lock ourselves in the vault was sort of fitting.
The greed of The Puppet got the best of him/her and for that he/she payed with his/her life.

/Opinion :twirl:

My couriers have just been nosy. They went to investigate the signal for the same reason they went up Black Mountain, or hired Beatrix. Well, considering hiring Beatrix and chickening out.

Once in the DLC, my guys just wanted to get out or get it over with. There were a few options to say this, I'm sure.

DLC != expansion.

gamesas are rubbish with their DLC's, some can be fun but it's never a full on improvement. I always look to Diablo 2 for the greatest added content, Lord of Destruction was a huge one up on the original game, added masses of content, fixed innumerate 'problems' (and some actual problems) and just generally improved the game massively.
DLC's, like gamesas do and Obsidian are obviously doing under them are basically, as fishygabe said, games within games. It's separate....like....Call of duty's zombies. If they were added content, they'd be Beth's DLC's. Fun to play around in, uses mechanics from the original game. Not part of it, has no or minimal impact on it (oddly, I prefer zombies story to black ops/WaW's story, mostly because COD is terrible ;))

I'd love for full on expansions, added content, changing world and so on, but with the style they have with DLC's it just doesn't seem to me that it's going to happen.
