the head of the Geckos family. A smooth-talking criminal but also a bit of a weasel, Benny may sound dangerous, but isn't that tough. Ultimately he's more of a ruthless pragmatist than a villain.

I might have to re-think killing him.

While I would have preferred it to be spoilered (as in blacked out), it's possible that the Courier simply saw him/her?
After all, he/she doesn't suffer from amnesia.

The quest must not be that important in the big picture. More of a personal sidequest tracking the guy down.

That's what I was thinking. It's not really a spoiler if we see it from the start.

But I get the feeling that it must be the intro cutscene -- I mean, look at the character models, they look different. If it is the scene at the beginning, then that's actually kinda cool.

Sure. But would the player have known?

When it's been boasted that one has to go find out who shot you and why, so I'd see it as a bit weird solution to reveal it already before the game is even out (or in the opening sequence of the game, which now seems likely). I'm sure, though, there's a reason for this, but somehow I would've preferred to do the digging my self.

Not a biggie anymore, though.

You know what, it wouldn't make any sense at all if this wasn't the beginning scene. He's pointing a gun and one of his goons has what looks like a shovel.

Also, it makes more sense that the comic won't spoil anything if it is known who shoots you from the beginning.

before i played fallout 1. Obviously we dont know how important it is now, but thats what it seems to resemble from where im sitting.
