Paarthurnax vs Blades (MQ Spoilers)

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 2:38 am

So, near the end of the MQ, Delphine tells you to kill Paarthurnaxx or they are gone.
I like the dragon though...he helped me and even told me that he used to be evil but through deep meditation he cure himself mentally.
I also want to help the Blades! :o
Tell me, is it worth killing Paarthurnax? What will they offer me after killing him. I would feel guilty if they just said "thanks". I already beat the MQ fyi.

Don't kill him. They are trying to get revenge for something happened thousands of years ago. In the meantime, buddy Paar has HELPED mankind. In my first playthrough, I killed him, and didn't notice any help from the blades...... The blades have become a thin shadow of what they were in oblivion. (and I am a BIG blades fan.......)

It's pretty bad that they call themselves dragonslayers, but aren't willing to do it on their own.

I always found it funny that they're supposedly around to serve and protect the Dragonborn, but in the end all they care about is their hatred for dragons.

I find it even funnier that these are the Bodyguard Blades, not the old Dragonslaying Blades and yet they act like they've been dragonslayers for years.

Thre radiant quests and the dragon melee damage resistance perk for helping Blades is broken on PC anyway. If you are going to kill Pathxnx, wait till Arngeir reveals all the shout location, then kill him. Greybeards are pretty useless after that. If anything Blades will give you a never ending quest for dragon hunting just so you can play the game a little longer while waiting for a DLC or an Expansion to come out.

Bounties are pretty broken too, after the MQ and CW. So it really depends on what broken quest you want to do. DB quests just sends you on loops, and so does the TG. So take your pick of broken side quests. I'd rather start a new character or two & pass my time that way thanks.

Maybe I could sympathize if Delphine wasn't such a [censored], and they had a better reason than "he did stuff!!!!1!" Nobody is perfect. Think about what kind of message we are sending. If you are bad, you must stay bad forever, because there is no mercy.

Kill him, that dragon is pure evil, i could see the evil in his eyes everytime he stares at me. The blades are the good guys, even the main quest has blades as the good guys and dragons/thalmor = bad guys.

Yeah, playing an instrumental role in saving the world twice over is such an evil thing to do.

Fact is he did far more to help defeat Alduin than the Blades ever did.

Dont kill him. They are trying to get you to kill him for something he did thousands of year ago and they dont even know the full details of and are just goin by what somebody has passed along in books etc. Paarthurnax has done nothing but help the greybeards and the dragonborns for the time he has been there.

But if you really want to kill him, get everything you want out of the greybeards first (Get them to tell you where all of the word walls are etc) before doing it because they will never help you again afterwards

You're hesitant to kill him, so don't.

it's such a shame the player is forced into such a ridiculous position. The Blades are meant to serve the Dragonborn, not boss him around. My character revisited Skyhaven Temple one more time after defeating Alduin, just so he could shout at Delphine. Unfortunate she's essential... CK will fix that in a hurry

If people are so intent on following Talos, they should support the Empire and the Blades. He started them both. :D

Paarthunax is cool, but he's hardly Puff the Magic Dragon. "Oh he's so nice and meditates on stuff". lol

Here's something else.. What good have the greybeards done? They're passive, which is ok, but ineffectual. Here's the other thing, the only guy you meet who's followed their school is Ulfric. Who uses shouts in duels. He's kind of a punk for that, like him or not.

What good is the Way of the Voice if it just leads to a former dragon tyrant who never answered for his crimes, a bunch of geezers who ignore the problems of the world, and an aspiring king who uses his shouts just to be provactive?

At least with the Blades, they give you cool armor, a cool sword, and dragon hunting quests. And dragon hunting is what you're supposed to be doing. Not meditating with them. Some of you want to punish Delphine, an old woman, for rightly thinking justice must be served.. but forgive something that brought terror to an entire planet. Great.

just so you all know Ysgramor is the true hero of humanity, first humans to settle and war with the elves were led by him and all. so WWYD (what would Ysgramor do) in this situation, would he listen to the DRAGON or not take any Chances and Kill the beast?

plus those who don't want to kill him must not be finding all the word walls and need the Greybeards' help.

I think Ysgramor would not only like Delphine, he'd probably try to get in her pants too.

The Blades are nothing more than wimps in skyrim...Delphine has to get the mage in whiterun to ask you to get the stone map from bleakfalls barrow. If she knew it was there why didnt she go get it herself????? WHY? because she is a wimp who is afraid of her own shadow and the old guy was hiding in the ratway cos he is scared of the thalmor. What a pair of self-serving, ego-tripping, hypocritical, (censored). They both deserve to die by the Dragonborn's hand

^ if that is the case, then the whole order in Oblivion needs to die as well as all of Tamriel, as everyone, even those that are perfectly capable of doing the quest asks you to do it instead.

Delphine not going into Bleak Falls is called a plot hole on Bethesda's part. She also went into Ustengrav and got Jurgen Windcaller's horn. Arguably a harder dungeon.

She's the acting grandmaster of the Blades, who's eluded the Thalmor for years. I doubt she's incompetent.

I don't know what's supposed to be so hypocritical about her. She's pretty consistent about her thoughts and intentions.

if she can get kill all the draugr to get the horn then a few bandits in bleakfalls should be no problem for her. The blades are all but gone, theres just the two of them left so they must all dead in other provinces. They have changed in 200 years, They were supposed to protect the dragonborn not order him/her around like some lapdog. They were supposed to also be dragon slayers so why dosnt she go kill Paarthunax?? Delphine says she has been looking for a dragonborn but I found her. I will admit only because of the note she left. I guess she was hoping a dragonborn would eventually appear so she left the note in case one did, to me thats not actively looking for anything thats the equivalent of putting an ad in the paper.

Tiber Septim himself went to High Hrothgar, and it's been said that he made a pact with the dragons who remained at the dawn of the Third Era - Paarthurnax most certainly existed at that time, and Tiber may well have been aware. They may have even met. We don't really know.

But did the Blades of the early Third Era issue petulant ultimatums to Tiber? Doesn't appear to be the case.

Delphine and Esbern can go get stuffed. My Dovahkiin made their own pact with Paarthurnax. He will try to reign in his younger brethren, and those that refuse, get slain and absorbed.
