Paarthurnax (Spoilers)

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:56 am

I was so depressed about having to kill him without having the option to persuade the Blades that he's one of the good guys. I literally almost cried, but due to my wish of trying to explore as much as I can within the first play through, I had to kill him. Couldn't the developers include another option?! That's just sad, that's all.

Meh, just ignore the Blades. They're not worth it. Alternately, if you're on the PC, there's a mod that allows you to basically tell them No and still be able to interact with them. Paarthunax Fix or something like that, I think.

Yeah, there are somethings you have to do to see other things, but that one wasn't worth it for me on either of my playthroughs. I can always read walkthroughs/spoilers if I want to know what happens. :P

You can talk to the greybeards and tell them that you are not going to kill parthurnax and the quest will be removed from your log.

Killing a dragon never felt better.

I had forged an axe, named it Glorious Justice and used it only on Paathurnax. It is now hanging on a wall in Breezehome.

Thats what I did and since then I rubbed my nose against the blades.

DarkenedSpear Do a reload and do exactly what awesomeray said and the quest will be removed from your journal.

I also read about every quest, NPC and place beforehand in order to know what to expect. But still I never knew that I can turn to the Greybeards, that's a great alternative! I'll do that on my next playthrough. In the meanwhile I'll have to live with these feelings of regret I have for killing Paarthurnax. Such a shame, really.

Paarthurnax did a much greater crime, yet he felt no regret. This is one of the reasons why I killed him. There are more reasons, but since you mentioned regret...

He's not a human - he can't be guilty of a "crime". It's in his nature (which he's successfully fighting) - is a bear a criminal for killing a rabbit?

We are no rabbits, and you do put down a bear if it has attacked humans...

Not really. If a bear is minding his own business and a human hikes into his territory only a ignorant fool would go kill a bear for being a bear. In the unfortunate incidences where bears stray into towns then it may, unfortunately, come to that.

And dragons are no mere bears - it was an anology.

Yeah, he's not human. Dragons are an even more evolved species than anything else on the planet. They didn't just kill humans either. They created a slave system, basically. They even recruited other humans to help keep things in line. If all they was did was mindless killing, it wouldn't have been so sophisicated.

Besides, he's knows he's guilty of crimes himself. That's.... pretty much why he's reformed and trying something else now.

I understand people wanting more options in the writing though.

One thing I don't like is his "argument of nature". That he was compelled to do it. I don't buy it. Mind you, I don't think he's all that bad now, but that's just lame writing. There are married people, who shag their neighbors in their beds while their kids are in the other room. And if they get caught, some might call themselves six addicts. "I can't help it. It's my nature."

Many pedophiles make the same argument. "I can't help it!" No one ever sympathizes there.

See, Sonja killed 1100 people and 23 murders in 22 game weeks and felt no regrets either. I'm sure that most of those 1100 felt they were innocent victims, too. So I figure that over 10 yrs, taking an 8 week vacation each year would amount to 22,000 people give or take, and I think that would also be with no regrets. That's kind of a mass murderer, don't you think? So given that, is she really any different than Paarthy? Think about it. That works out to 7.1428 people per day.

Paarthy gets pardoned.

I just never took the quest to kill Paarthurnax from the Blades.

PS: about the .1428 people/day...... what do you think the chamber in the Sanctuary is for?

We all have our dark little secrets. Paarthurnax did some pretty [censored] up things in the past but now he changed for the good. Instead of flying around slaughtering villages and cities hes on the mountain meditating. Yeah hes such a big bad dragon that deserves to be killed. Sorry but [censored] delphine and [censored] Esbern. If they want to kill him let them... but don't think that Paarthurnax will be fighting alone because he will have the dragonborn to be on his side.

Quite a few people would claim aggression and violence are part of human nature but it wouldn't work as a defence in a law court.
