Perks you regret picking?

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 11:10 pm

The title says it all, is there any perk you have picked and wished you hadn't? Has it significantly changed your game for the worse? Do you wish they would patch in an ability to respec?

Mine has to be the 'Quick reflexes' perk on blocking. It has slowed my game down dramatically, and I don't mean bugs. When I started Skyrim I loved the sword n' board fighting style cause it seemed like it had some 'oomph' to it when someone connected with your shield. There were times when I felt desperate as an enemy rained blows upon me and all I could do was stumble back, deflecting them with my shield while trying to get in the odd hit. It was exciting.

Now with the Quick Reflexes perk it has slowed fighting to a crawl, every power attack allows me to easily sidestep and get three blows in before the character has a chance to react. The game has been made insanely easy with it. (And yes I am playing on master)

For such an early perk it seems really overpowered. I would have preferred it if it only had say a 20% chance of working. That way when I was in a tough fight it would be a relief when my quick reflexes perk kicked in and giving me the upper hand. As it stands now, every fight gives me the upper hand and it's boring.

I wish they would fix the power or let me respec it has really taken the fun out of my warrior character.

Anyway, thanks for the rant, now it's your turn :D

I never picked Quick reflexes because i knew for a fact it would get annoying as hell.
Anyways, i regret choosing the pcikpocketing perks that increase the chance of stealing. % chances don't mean [censored] in this game. It's like every item has a 50/50 chance of getting stolen, no matter what the % chance. That's about it...

My first character i picked a couple of pickpocketing perks only afterwards realizing that i didn't even need them when i play my second character without the perks. I could still pick the same locks i just used up a couple extra lockpicks here and there. They really should ahve implemented F03s system of if you character isn't skilled enough then you can't even attempt it.

Destruction Novice and Dual-Casting.

MY two-handed warrior didn't get anywhere near the mileage she was promised out of them.

I was a non thief, and picked up the persuasion/intimidation perks as well as guard bribe thing. I didnt really use it for anything except for further leveling my speechcraft, and a few extra gold. In hindsight if your a non thief and dont need to bribe guards to forget you, better to take the merchant perks if your trying to get more gold for smithing or enchanting. The fire/frost/storm enchanting is fairly useless as well unless your a caster and attempting to get the double enchant perk.

I picked some dual casting and some Alteration perks - they never really served any purpose. Considering I mainly have a spell in one hand and a sword in the other, it hardly seemed worth it.

There are some Enchanting and Destruction ones that are pretty worthless to me.

Avoid death. Totally not what I was expecting. Although I suppose even if I got +250 health after being decapitated, I would still bleed out, so maybe I should've known better.

Anything past novice in any magic skill, after seeing the 100% casting reduction from enchanting.

Dual wielding was a waste for me, because not long after choosing it I decided to go with the axe+shield combination. The perk itself is fine, though.

i agree with OP, quick reflexes was my biggest regret. It definitely slows combat way down and makes it basically svck. Its just straight up annoying really. Luckily i save before choosing a new perk in case i realize it was a bad choice.

also the 3 elemental perks in enchanting...absorb health/magicka/stamina, soul trap, and paralyze are all superior weapon effects

Yeah I think if your going to dual wield, swords are your best bet. Axes are good if your alternating between a weapon and a spell alot as the bleed damage will sustain on your target when you alternate to cast. I used a mace with a shield as it was the perfect way to get the most out of one hit after that block or after that block bash and then go back to your defensive form with your shield. Of course if you put an enchant on your weapon you may want a sword as it is quicker and can 'proc' your weapon more times than an axe or mace.

If you want Quick Reflexes to have a 20% chance of working why don't you get 80 percent Spell Absorption? There, "problem" solved.

The first perk in the two handed tree that I picked out early during my game before I realized I liked using dual swords better than using two handed weapons.

Power Bash. Any Lockpicking perks.
I like Quick Reflexes, but I use it to bash them out of their power attack, instead of sidestep and slash like crazy.

Yeah I do the bash aswell but then it becomes really dull. It's slow.bash>stab>stab>stab>slow>repeat

Least when sidestepping I have the thrill of manually dodging the blade all matrix like :P
