Platform choice and Intelligence

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 1:58 am

As a PC Xbox and PS3 owner and gamer, I find it deeply offensive the remarks people are making in these forums in regards too choice of platform and intelligence. How on earth do people come to the conclusion that playing on a console effects the users intelligence is beyond stupidity right their. I'm sure I'm not alone in finding these comments amongst threads misguided and offensive.

Small people are always going to judge others on something so stupid.

Many polls have clearly shown that PC players are generally older. This does not mean they are more intelligent, but I would argue they are wiser and want deeper and more intellectual challenges in games.

as a pc, xbox 360, and ps3 slim user i find it funny youd care. its a forum, if your so sensitive you can leave it. and yes, playing on console doesnt inherently in itself effect the intelligence/attitude of the player, however you have to take into account the entire thing.

a console isnt just a console, used over the years it grooms the player to a certain expectation. this is teh same thing that causes people to prefer certain model guns or cars over others.

now certain people will "click" with such grooming more then others. as such xbox 360 (microsoft) bred a very aggressive and rude player group. with constant expectations of multiplayer, competition (big one here), isntant gratification, and achievement bragging.

competition, bragging, no or next to no repercusions for poor sportsmenship and attitude, sometimes encouraged....combined with the anomynity of online play...is it any surprise xbox 360 users get this rap?

thats not to say these players dont exist on other gaming formats, or that they only own a xbox 360. its a stereotype...and the one thing about many stereotypes....is that they are true to an extent

now you can either disregard what i said as pointless drivel, or you can take a look around and realize its true.

I'm 31 and I play on xbox... I do have a computer, but I can't afford to upgrade it to run Skyrim. yeah, you really can't judge on these things, age, intelligence, bah

It's the PC Master Race constantly blathering, ignore them. Hell if I could afford it I'd have it on PC for the mods too, I was primarily a PC gamer for many years.

The whole irony of the posts you speak of is the most mature, intelligent and forward-thinking games I've played over the years have been primarily for consoles.

It's nothing to do with intelligence, but there is a lot to do with expectations. Consoles almost always have lower expectations of games/prices/value etc.

I remember when I first built a PC I bought the Crysis collection (Crysis/Warhead/Wars) on steam for around £15.. my PC friends just laughed and told me it's in most sales and usually costs around £6 for the lot lol.

Are you serious? Do you play online games on the PC? It's the exact same thing.

Try Heroes of Newarth, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Left4Dead, Killing Floor, Starcraft 2, Battlefield series and the list goes on. You just described exactly what goes on in these games on a constant basis. People are people, stop trying to classify based on gaming platform since you will find they are the same everywhere.

As someone that plays TF2 regularly, I can concur. Most people are dumb no matter where you go, it certainly has nothing to do with what platform they play their games on.

I find them to be more silly than offensive. Determining someone's intelligence based on the platform of their choice is equivalent to predicting their intelligence based on color or music preference.

It's just a way to cover for insecurities.

I was a PC gamer for many years, and a console gamer before that (my first was an Atari VCS in 1978, what was yours?) . . . Once I had kids hitting grade school age, the fun of never-ending component upgrades just to run the latest and greatest wore very thin indeed. Switched back to console gaming exclusively when we got the 360 and don't care to go back. If PC gaming floats your boat, great. If not, great. Life's too short to sweat the never-ending platform wars.

how can I be more Intelligent when playing a pc game and less so when on a console. The whole notion of this idea is flawed. As a gamer that enjoys ALL platforms this years console releases have been outstanding!

Most PC users who are elitist on these boards are very insecure. Its why they post their "rig" specs in their signatures, its why they brag about the cost of parts, etc. Just ignore them OP. These same people literally blame things like movies becomming less interesting, music going bad, TV shows getting bad, all on consoles. They just need a boogeyman.

You make some good points, but I don't think a rotten playerbase should be the blame because you'll find [censored]s everywhere. In my opinion, the anonymity of the internet breeds a lot of this drivel (well said) more than platform choice as I have met plenty of warm, friendly 360 users and plenty of arrogant, ego-stroking PC users and vice versa.

C'est la vie..

If you makes you feel better it took 70 hours of gameplay for my to figure there was a sprint function on the PC. I rule at video games. :disguise:

i coudl go on and on about how xbox actually pioneered the basis that caused online play to devolve past where it was.

i could show you and illustrate th timeline.

but why bother.

you basically didnt read my post, or didnt undestand it. i never stated an absolute, therefore OF COURSE online in ps3, pc, etc will have this issue as well. however its more prevalent and more encouraged on xbox.

but enjoy living in your dreamworld /sigh

oh i have experienced this as well, its nice.

my main point would be that microsofts xbox was the first platform that encouraged and even incentivized this behavior, leading it to be seen as ok by many. therefore its no surprise they get bad raps. founded or no.

Because the PC is better.

Joking! It just boils down to having a superiority complex. We love being better and having something better, when something as important as platform gets argued then people turn pretty nasty.

You can argue that, but you can't argue it for the entire population of older PC gamers. Some of my generation (so-called Gen-X) and the previous generation (baby boomers) just want point-and-click, mind-numbing games that require no thought whatsoever -- and there's nothing wrong with that since it's a great distraction and time-killer.

Being "wiser" and wanting "deeper and more intellectual challenges" can absolutely be mutually exclusive.

One does not have to seek out PC games just to get that "deeper and more intellectual" challenge that one is looking for. Fact.
