X-Play Preview discussion

I don't really understand how Strength affects weapon effectiveness, I understand how it would affect melee weapon damage but it seems to also affect small guns, Perception specifies energy weapons only. I liked to make my small guns character not very strong but perceptive and agile, now it seems that will make my small guns usage worse I don't want to have to be strong to be good with a pistol or rifle, makes no sense.

I also wonder what "nerve" is because it says Charisma affects it.

Would have liked to see some more none combat traits but its nice that they are back anyway.

Small Guns doesn't exist...remember that. Strength can effect weapon effectiveness. Do you honestly expect to hold a mini-gun and use it effectively with 3 strength? I don't think so. It effects aim more than anything.

Did anyone notice in the second to last video how something was blurred out in one of the clips. It was an indicator for something and the speculation is driving me mad. It had the present icon! :shocking:

I'm geussing he just recieved the package, and they didn't want to spoil it.

In the third video at 1:44 one of the items to make the food is Fire Ant meat, I thought Fire Ants were exclusive to DC...
pausing alot at the video I can also see "honey mesquito pod" and "deer"...

Some cross-over is to be expected. Fire Ants are a solid early level enemy and fire breathing is a pretty iconic mutation. Besides, the resources are already there, why not use them? It's an additional enemy for the game that as a developer they don't have to design/build/record/etc. I'd be stunned if Obsidian didn't use as much material from Fallout 3 as they could, that's a lot of work already done for them.

No Fallout game is complete without giant ants and scorpions tbh. It doesn't get more '50's nuclear horror' then that now does it? :nuke:

Did anyone else think the female character running animation looked terrible?

hmmm maybe. but it was a video encode of a live show of encoded videos of screengrabs, so I'm not going to judge until it's on my machine. If it IS horrible, then that's nothing a new animation run-cycle mod can't fix.

I thought the animation looked really good at least they finally showed off a female character model. All the previews before X Play have been done with Male Characters.

Well, I doubt it was motion capture. I did not think it terrible, but its not memorable either... and if you think about it, that might actually be a good thing.

If every quest is as well written, and as witty, and Beyond The Beef, then this may be the best game ever made.

They had sped up all the scenes with the female char running about. Looked to be going alot faster then normal speed so it looked rather odd. Most likely they needed to cut the length of the show by a few min.

Small guns doesn't exist? No...I thing Big guns doesn't exist, I don't remember reading small guns was removed.

and no...I don't expect to hold a minigun with strength 3, hence why I said pistol or rifle.

Pistols and rifles need around 5 strength. Maybe a little more depending on the power.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnOUYrrkoac is what happens when you shoot a gun with low strength.

They have been morphed into a catch-all skill that applies to anything with a bullet. :(

I also wonder what "nerve" is because it says Charisma affects it.

Nerve is how well your comapanions fight in combat.
The higher your charisma the more effective your allies will be.

Even if the game ends up being mediocre junk the iron sight mode automatically makes the game MUCH better than Fallout 3.
