Playing a left-handed person?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 6:35 pm

Didn't Bethesda promise that you could play a left-handed person in this game? All spells automatically go into left hand first when hotkeyed, weapons into right hand, shields ONLY left hand, and if you equip only a weapon on left hand you won't be able to block because instead you will punch with your right hand.

well you got your own answer there.
equip weapon in left hand
shield is left handed and even basjing is lefthanded
the bow is held by the left hand.
hm...i think they made it a left handed game and not a right handed one.

a left handed person is rellying on tht hand, so a shield bash with your power arm is better ;)

or maybe, you are lefthanded. hey the mice are ambidextrous (not talking about some specific gaming mice, that are custom RHD)

look at other rpg's out there and stop complaining about skyrim. perfection will NEVER exist, so it's obvious that some aspect will not be acomplished by anything in this world.

You can...sort of. Weapons can be equipped by hand. On console, you just equip with the left trigger; not sure if this works on PC. You can also ue the button to equip twice. The first puts the weapn on the right, the second in the left. Same with spells.

Two-handed weapons and bows only have right handed anims, so you will always use them righty.

The problem with being lefty is that blocking is linked to the let hand. If a righty equips a single weapon, the weapon is in the right hand and the left trigger(right mouse button) blocks. For a lefty, the right hand will not block, it will throw a punch. Shields are also only equippable in the right hand, as are torches. Because of this, any character who wants to play lefty will be unable to block. Period. Which is slightly annoying.

Also, the finisher animations are done for 2h, dual wield, and 1h - in the right hand. Playing lefty with a spell or nothing equipped means you will not get finisher moves, which is also slightly annoying.

I'm still hoping that a future patch/DLC will enable shields for the right hand and thus let us block. In my opinion, that's the only thing wrong with the game...I haven't really seen gamebreaking bugs or anything in my experience. Since the shield models are made with the handle in the middle, the meshes would not need to be redone, but the animations are the hard part. I guess it's also impossible to get the 'apparel' to equip by hand, so I suggest that each base shield is given an extra version, named 'Hide Shield ®' or something that will equip only intpo the right hand. Put the new shields in vendor lists and also in the forge recipes, and also add a recipe to go from 'Hide Shield' to 'Hide Shield ®' that really doesn't give a smithing boost. As for enchanted shields, maybe do the same, but I'd be ok if no lefty shiels are enchanted, and I need to disenchant/reenchant if I want it. Finally, the unique shields (Spellbreaker, etc) should have a lefty version and a way to choose which you want as the reward (like the game seeing which hand you have your weapon equipped and giving you the appropriate shield.

I also would like to see lefty finishers, but that's not a big thing. Not being able to block is crippling my char, as I'm getting creamed on Adept when faced with more than two people simultaneously.

plus why is it no one thinks of the modders? we can make a simple "shield can be in either hand" mod

so it's ok to build up hype and lie about different aspects of the game?

if anything this is discrimination. i bet people would be mad if they made a game where they were like, 'you can be a black person, oh wait no you can't.'

seriously, left handed people are the most discriminated against group world-wide. products are made for righties, 2500 lefties die a year from righty products, lefties would get abused by elders and they would get their left handedness 'beat out of them,' the left is looked at as the devils path, anything to the right is the 'right' thing. [censored] i could go on and on.

I blame not being able to open cans on right handers. I don't know if it's true or not but It's what I'm going with.

2500 lefties die a year from righty products
If the majority of products are made for right handed people, how is this surprising? Just as many if not more right-handed people will die from using right-handed products.

by 2500 i meant lefties who died from the fact it was crafted for right handed use, i.e. fumbling with a gun cause the reloading function and build favors righties, faulty handling of right handed kitchen tools or other items like right handed scissors, etc.

The only things you can't wield in your right hand is a torch and a shield. It allows you to be a left hander like no other BGS made game so far.

because i play on xbox360, so idgaf about mods?

they promised it and it isn't there, well, not fully implemented i mean, you can't block with the right hand and can't equip it with a shield

Which I totally love about them. Anybody notice how other games which feature a hero who's been left-handed for 25 years suddenly make him a righty so their precious motion control will appeal to the masses? And then instead of having the motion control available to anyone, they come out and state that they hope lefties hcan just learn to play right-handed. Burn, Nintendo... used to love Zelda. Well F You too.

Now here's Bethesda, who allows u to wield swords lefty without us asking. :goodjob: Would be better if we could block, so I'm still holding out for that. But nice job respecting the 10% :tes:

I don't remember them saying you could play as a left handed. Just that you could equip a weapon or spell in your left hand for dual wielding or spell casting with your left hand and a weapon in your right.

the bow is held by the left hand.

although a left handed archer would hold the bow with his right hand, leaving his stronger left arm free to draw the arrows back

Burden of proof is on you guys, not him. You're the one saying they said that, and he's the one saying he doesn't remember hearing it. He isn't saying they explicitly said you can't.

you know its kinda hard to find pre-release stuff about a game when its already released

that doesn't mean he is right and we are wrong...as you are assuming

That isn't proof, that's hearsay (which is what this thread is).

Proof is an official statement by a Bethesda employee, either in a magazine or other official source.

That is just from a forum poster, not from an official Skyrim source. Correct?
