Pulling out the old GeForce 210 and installing an HD 6850 or (likely) an HD 6870.

Overclock it, get a 980 like me (OC to 4.1ghz) or get a new bulldozer :)

GTX 570, runs everything I've thrown at it on max settings at 60fps+, except the Witcher 2 , which gets 45-60fps on ultra.

Might get a second if I can find a 775 board with with:

  • Native USB3
  • Native SATA III <--- SATA III and LGA 775 don't seem to ever be on the same ATX board though, so I might just use an expansion
  • 1600 FSB for QX9770
  • SLI support.

I've never had two cards, but would love to if I can free up expansion slots with the right board.

Im not very happy with ATI support lately, but this HD 6870 was cheaper(100 bucks, brand new). I prefer Nvidia generally.

$100 for an HD 6870? No way, more like $140 minimum.

A RADEON HD 6770. :) I think it's a tiny bit below recommended, but it should do the job still I guess. However I don't have brand loyalty either, like someone stated before.

I have the same card and the HD 6770 is above recommended. It's the same GPU as a 5770, but has GDDR5 mem and some other upgrades in video processing. Don't worry, we'll be able to max this game.

You're gonna love the difference...
Me will play with my beloved 580 <3

If you have money Nvidea is the way to go, overall there more stable then ATI and more powerful if you go top series.

And their drivers have typically been better.

I've got an AMD Radeon HD 6970 myself, the best I figured I could do without being ridiculously opulent in "How much cash do you need to have to be to afford it". :P

(Nothing but pleased with it, too :P This PC is entirely new-built, but before I had a nVidia 9400GT..... and it was a big step up :celebration: )

ATI HD 6990

I was planning to buy GTX 590, but due various reasons*, I had to go for 6990.

*Mainly because shipment would have been late from Skyrim launch.

Sounds like the day I went from an 9500 GT to my 470. First thing I did was play Crysis. Second thing I did was faint.

I have a GeFore 8800GTX 768mb from like 3 or 4 years ago when I bought my computer. It's getting a bit dated but you'd be surprised how good performance I get in new games.

I'm not a fan of Radeon's really, So I go with Nvidia. Even though they run hot. I have a 550 at the moment and I'm sure it'll run Skyrim on at least high, which is better than I ran Oblivion at, so it's good enough for me. I could have waited and got a 560 or 570 but I'm not patient. Which is why I can't have really nice things.

I've got an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250 so I'm not really sure where that falls on your list? It's about 2 years old now (maybe 3?) so not at the top of it's game but enough to run Skyrim on med settings. :)

I currently have a MSI 560 GTX and I'm very pleased. I'm confident I can max Skyrim graphics.

My last card was an ATI XFX 4890 which blew up playing Deus Ex HR, i wasn`t greatly fussed for the card due to the racket of the the fans when they were on full, also ran quite hot as well.
Recently got an MSI Nvidia GTX 560 TI Frozr II OC and oh boy, what a card! Extremely quiet and runs The Witcher 2, GTA IV on Max settings, no problem. Wouldn`t swap it for the world :)

1GB AMD Radeon HD 6950 from Sapphire. So far it's been an outstanding card. I can run pretty much anything. (Crysis ~40fps on ultra, BF3 ~60fps on ultra)

2GB XFX Radeon 6950 (unlockable reference version)...unlocked shaders and OCed to be just as fast as a Radeon 6970.

I really wanted to do that, but couldn't find the right card.
