If Playing on a PC will you be running with NVIDIA or RADEON

Post » Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:56 am

I have a GeFore 8800GTX 768mb from like 3 or 4 years ago when I bought my computer. It's getting a bit dated but you'd be surprised how good performance I get in new games.

Yep, the 'ol 8800's a real workhorse, with the CPU and RAM upgrade I did earlier in the year, I've yet to meet a game I can't max most of the settings on.

GTS 450 that i bought about a year ago. An affordable DX11 card that i've been quite happy with, below Skyrim's recommendation, but i don't think i'll have trouble since my monitor only goes to 1366x768 :hehe:

XFX/ATi is all I use.
I had very bad luck out of Nvidia parts, not to say they are all bad. I just dislike them from the two cards I owned.

I had a 8800GTS about 3 years ago, and it was garbage, so I got a XFX 4870.
Now I have a 5870, and if I had the money I would get a second 5870 or a 6970, but I don't.

I'm runnin an ATI Radeon HD5850. I got it for like $250 2 years ago, and so far it continous to effortlessly max out every game I have. Very nice card.

Nice, same here. I love my 5850, I've been playing BF3 on ultra with no problems.

I have dual 5870's. Though one is usually quite plenty so Crossfire is currently off.

Crossfire is great for some games, and a hindrance on others. TF2 for example gets lower FPS and a pause issue (Game just stops for a second.) with Crossfire.

Fallout NV/Oblivion get 60+ FPS with one 5870. I expect Skyrim to be no different.

Well, at the moment: integrated graphics :P I'm getting the HD 6870 soon. Which is weird, because I've always been more inclined to Nvidia in the same way I'm more inclined to Intel than AMD.

I'm running a GTX460 right now, I'll probably throw another one in before I get Skyrim, or upgrade.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6970 2GB for me. Vroom vroom! :D

I just traded up in the last few months from a Sapphire 4870x2. That card was a mega-powerhouse, but it was finally starting to show its age. Also its screaming hot temperatures and power draw. I could run FEAR 3 at a nice and stable 60FPS with the settings maxed, but the card would still flirt with 90C. (Which isn't really that bad for that card--it ran at about 65-70C at idle with the fans @ 30%--but still. Ow. I almost didn't need to heat my room in the winter! :flame: ) The 6970 only does 75C with the same settings. Muuuuch better.

(As for the power draw: sheesh! As soon as I installed the 6970, my PSU apparently went "wait, you mean I can quit now?" and promptly started having fits. I guess it didn't know what to do with itself once the giant power svck was removed.)

I wouldn't say I have a "brand loyalty" per se, I'm just used to AMD cards by this point and know what quirks the drivers may or may not have. AMD works for me, but I'm not about to start a brand war over it. I like the performance I've gotten out of Sapphire cards, too, and I know they have good customer service/RMA (my first 4870x2 was defective; had to RMA it).

I have a newer Nvidia card (500 series). I prefer the Nvidia Control Panel to the AMD Catalyst Control Center. Just seems a little less clunky and useful (all other things being equal). Driver quality seems to be pretty much a draw these days (although I've heard complaints from both camps).

I've two Nvidia 9400GT 512 Mb in SLI-mode which is working just fine.

I won't play any game with a Radeon video card in the future, because of really bad experience from the past.

I have a Radeon 5870, a GeForce GTX 285, and a GeForce GTX 260/216. I have no brand loyalty. I won't be considering upgrades until the next generation of GPUs, as the current generation isn't enough of an upgrade to make it worth the money to me. As far as recommendations go, it really depends on your budget.

Until AMD's proprietary Linux drivers are up to snuff and offering actually usable features (XvBA is useless in reality due to no support, unlike VDPAU) I'll stick with Nvidia in all my builds.

I had an Nvidia and switched to an ATI, can't really compare since they were in different price brackets, but Nvidia's drivers were certainly simpler to get running, and I prefer their menu.

Back when I had my good PC... I used NVIDIA and now I don't really know what to use.
Anything that has power and fairly cheap is my friend.

Supposedly my MOBO does not support SLI, only Crossfire.
Does anyone here know if this is true or not. Why whould a motherboard matter concerning this?

I have the Nvidia GTX 460. My motherboard is SLI capable, but the card is just too damn big to have two.

Of the options that Tig advised for my new build, I'll likely get the NVidia EVGA GeForce GTX 580.

Now, if I can only get some time for the buying/ordering/building already! Man oh man, can't seem to catch a break here :ahhh:

GTX 470. Come Christmastime (or tax time depending on work xmas bonus) I'll either add another 470, or just upgrade to a 580 instead. It depends on how much money I have to spare then.

NVidia GTX470 1280MB. This card cuts down anythiiiing. Maybe not totally maxed out, but the bang-for-buck when I picked it up (well over a year ago) is pretty awesome. May throw another in there or upgrade to a GTX580 Fermi or something.
