A plea to fix Followers!

I agree with most of these comments about improving followers. I really enjoy going adventuring with someone, but half the time they do tend to get in the way and it's like you're always looking out for them. Sometimes they just seem to stand there when you walk off, and you have to go back and get them, (well, it's happened to me once!). I've killed Lydia accidentally a few times because she runs into my line of sight just as I fire off an arrow or perform a Shout, so ordering them to stay back and attack using ranged weapons would be useful sometimes.

But the carrying capacity dropping all the time is my biggest bugbear. I'd hoped the Wabbajack "trick" would cure this for Lydia, but it hasn't, and now I can hardly give her anything to carry. Luckily she does tend to equip things if I drop them and ask her to pick them up. (And useful as that is, it's unrealistic, so I think if you do end up over-loading a follower they should start to walk slowly, like you do when carrying too much.)

Yes, Fixing the carrying bug should be a priority, as well as the others points made in this thread.

As of now, with the pathfinding bugged, the game is in a state of despair, or close to.

I second this. Followers are [censored] in this game. Except Aela. She never messes up my flow.

It has to be said - this game has been out for over 6 months, and they still haven't patched something as simple and obviously bugged as the follower bow glitch. That's just embarrassing considering how much emphasis is placed on followers in this game and considering how it affects almost everyone who plays regardless of play style.

Bethesda,

Can you please fix the broken followers, it applies to all followers on all platforms (PC, 360, PS3).

When we give a follower better equipment and then never take it off them, we expect them to keep that equipment as their default because it is superior. We also want our followers to go to the home we are currently using if we choose as such, but this is not an option. I would hope you could fix the following issues:
  • Followers will not stubbornly use their inferior default Bow if you give them one that is superior
  • Followers will not default back to inferior default armor/weapons when they go back home
  • Followers will set their homebase to our current homebase, or another of our specific choosing at our discretion (like we can for our married partners)
  • Followers are not capped in their skill level as this is unrealistic
  • Followers carry weight should not decrease every time we send them home and then ask them to join us once again (eventually they can carry nothing!!!!!)
These five pieces of broken code are not exactly game breaking, but they are extremely annoying and if you were to ask people how much they would like to see this fixed then you might be suprised that quite a few people do get frustrated by it. I assume that not much coding would be needed for this, any chance it can be thrown in with the next update?

I am all about a fix for followers, they can definitely be improved, but them switching to their default gear when I send them home doesn't bother me in the least bit (seems more realistic), and also I don't think all followers should go to your home. I mean, why would a mercenary go to my home when I temporarily dismiss me? I'm their boss, not their brother.

Followers like Lydia? Yes. Go to my home. But mercenaries like, say, Vorstag? No.

They certainly need something, as they are it's pretty bad.

I don't like all hell breaking loose because my follower wants to run off or charge ahead into a room full of enemies when I'd prefer to take things slow.
Same here which is why I avoid followers. I particularly disliked Astrid's horse following me around everywhere too, He got me into a lot of brawls that could have been avoided.
I would have preferred to have him stay where I want him to unless I specifically want to ride him.

My main gripe is when they attack the enemy that I'm attacking and get hit a few times by my sword because they got in the way, then they start attacking me as if I did it deliberately.
