Well seeing as how there are implants and whatnot in the fallout universe, I'm guessing the medical care is significantly better than the bloody table in an old tent that so many people seem to imagine.

Also, my thoughts on how he survived is that he might have had a previous head injury and had a steel/ceramic plate in his head. It could have glanced off or absorbed the round without being penetrated.

I personally don't think that they will really explain where you got shot or how you survived.

Oh, yeah. Because the game would be so much better if you did die and the whole storyline was you dead in a grave...

I can use a .35 pistol and VATS to behead an enemy. Benny uses something like that and barely kills the Courier.

People, the Courier is wearing what TV Tropes would call "Plot Armor". He/She is not going to die until if and when the plot demands it.

They didn't have anything remotely decent by today's standards to treat him with, either, pretty much pull it out and hope for the best. It stands to reason, therefore, that with enough luck the courier could survive a few hours in that hole with a .45 in his head somewhere. Especially if Benny missed anything terribly vital.

I think it's a .22 caliber pistol, not a .32 caliber.
So, more chance to survive.

All this talk about surviving a shot to the head. What makes me somewhat suspicious is the fact that he seems to have rigor mortis (due to the way his hand is completely frozen into that cramp-like position), and that is usually a good sign that you're dead.

.22 longs are known for being beyond deadly with a headshot. Reason is at the range Benny shot you, the slug can go into the skull, but can't punch back out. It's also small enough to not easily coast to a stop due to the viscosity of the brain. Therefore the slug bounces around in there and acts like a damn blender.


A .22 short, however, would be lucky to punch through the skull in the first place.

you know, you have a point sir. i rewatched the teaser trailer just now and youre absolutely right. but maybe he woke up, and tried to dig his way out and maybe became unconscious from the stress or being buried alive, not being able to breathe well, being shot in the head, etc. any number of reasons could explain it.

I find it funny that you are ok with all these robots and plasma guns, and the fact that there was a global nuclear war in the story... "But that guy got shot in the head twice and lived?" "Highly unlikely". If you've ever heard of a man named Vlad the Impaler, look up what he used to do to people while they were alive. Also the currior has high luck.

It made him a total grumpy bastard afterwards though. Planning that for my sadistic evil character. He'll get a complete personality change after he gets shot.
