Eh, it's possible to survive a headshot. Weaker bullets like 9mm (It appears that our killer is using a 9mm form the screenshot) and .22 often don't penetrate the skull, and even bigger bullets can just clip the inside of the braincase and miss the brain.

shot in the head twice, buried alive, and you stay alive long enough to be found by a robot....something doesnt seem right here....are you a god or something?

has no one else noticed this?

I'm not sure if you are, in fact, shot in the head or if you just took a couple of slugs to the chest. But if it is stated for certain that you got shot in the head, then there is a big difference between being shot in the head and being shot in the BRAIN. Provided that the cutscene showing you get shot doesn't explicitly reveal where you got shot, we can assume both slugs got buried elsewhere in your skull (not the brain) and the doc somehow managed to reconstruct your face (possible given some of the medical technology that has survived throughout the years).

But truth be told, I'm expecting some big twist to be revealed as the game progresses. My guess (and please keep in mind I'm just pulling this out of my butt) is that the Courier did, in fact, die when he got shot and buried. The robot only dug up a corpse and dragged it to the doctor, who revived you in a frankenstein-like manner using some kind of weird futuristic super-SCIENCE! Maybe he stuffed an electronic brain into your skull and you're really an AI guiding a human body around. Who knows?

I don't see the problem? NPC's in Fo3 survived torrents of bullets to the head, why would it be any different in NV? :P :D

I'm taking it in the sense that the Courier died. Straight up dead, my friends. But Doc Mitchell has the medical wherewithal to ressucitate the unliving. Which is why he dies as soon as I build my character and get my gear back.... I havta be able to kill Benny and others without fear of their buddies dragging them over to Mitchell for revival.

Nope. Movies cause cancer. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go swap my work foil hat with my evening foil hat. Good evening.

So, does the Doc make you look different so the bad guys don't see you coming?

If you wanta think of it that way.... I'm thinkin' it has more to do with the fact that your head resembles a bowl of old porridge when he gets you on the workbench, and while he may not know you yet, he does know that human heads don't look like porridge.

Shot through the head twice? Easy especially with the advanced medical technologies in the Fallout universe. I present 2 cases:

Phineas Gage was a normal man working for the railroads when something unfortunate happened. A 3'7" iron rod about 1.25 inches in diameter and 13.25 lbs. in weight was shot through his cheekbone and out the top of his skull to land about 80 feet away. He survived and successfully recovered. Also, this occurred in 1848 (remember Joseph Lister only published his discovery of antiseptics in 1867).

In 2006, a suicidal man entered an Oregon ER complaining of a headache. The staff didn't really know what was wrong until an X-ray showed that he had shot himself through the skull with 12 2-inch nails (spread on both sides of his head). Doctors removed the nails and he survived to recover well enough to escape the psych ward.

The ending to Saints Row 1 was just - wow. It was nice to see that intro to Saints Row 2. People thought Fallout 3's ending svcked? At least you saw your death coming. Saint's Row has a mission like pretty much any other, one where you are expecting to solidify control on the city once and for all, your crowning moment of awesome . . . and the boat blows up. Roll credits.

Imagine if, in Fallout 3, you were talking to Colonel Autumn in the Purifier, and a tech screamed, "The Purifier was damaged in the fight! It's going to blow!" Cut to the outside of the Jefferson Memorial, and the whole thing goes up like Megaton. Roll credits.

As to surviving gunshots, of course it is possible. Keep in mind to that before advances in medical technology, people were often mistaken for dead, when they were, in fact, not. Often these people regained consciousness on their own. If, in fact, the package the Courier was carrying is the attacker's main focus, they could easily have shot the Courier until they stopped moving, kicked them into a shallow hole, and walked off with the package while the Courier was still very much alive, if in very bad shape. How many times in Fallout 3 have we shot a character or NPC and then walked away without checking if they are still alive (gameplay indicators not withstanding)?

Likely that the Courier just lapsed into a coma, and was nursed back from the brink by the good doctor. Though why, in the wasteland, someone would devote the considerable effort and resources to saving a complete stranger already very nearly as good as dead is a mystery. Dr. Mitchell seems far too altruistic to be trust-worthy to me. He even gives you a rare and valuable Pipboy! I suspect puppetry!

The Courier was set Essential at the time he was shot, so he just fell unconscious instead.
