Campaign Length

It was in preproduction for a long time.

But that's off topic, even if it was started in 2005 or 2006 thren that would leave them a ton of time before i think idtech5 was made, what else would they be doing?

Even if it was in preproduction, its very unlikely that they were working on it while they were crunching on Doom 3. Remember Doom 3 was released in 2004 August.
As for what else they were doing, who knows, probably some game that ended up being cancelled. John Carmack was working on updating the tech4 (doom3) engine even after release. They were also cooperating with Raven and Splash Damage on Quake4 and ET:QW, plus there was Quake Live as well. The game hasn't been in development for 7-8 years like many people like to say.

I highly doubt the side missions would be anything that adds a decent amount of extra play time. Most likely they'll be just like the missions in Borderlands.Disappointing to the least that it'll have a short campaign.

Fallout had a lot of side missions and they were always fun, there was probably 40 hours of side missions in that game. Plus id said that is the reason why there is no traditional multiplayer, because there is a long campaign

I hope it is not like Medal of Honor campaign because that is just going to be short and boring.

And I hope it is not like the Brink single player campaign.

Companies do this all the time, Halo Reach started producting BEFORE halo 3. WoW was in production right after Warcraft 2 was launched. They always start their projects early and they dont always use the exact teams. This is how they can do this. Plus most ID games are developed by a small team of people, and ID has more then enough workers to multitask a video game or 2.
