Steam Brink Pre-Load

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 6:08 pm

i wish publishers would just let these release dates go for preorders at least. if you put faith in their product let us have it as soon as it's possible. the game is 74.5% on my harddrive now. it's been paid for last december, and there is no further nwork to be done on it aside from patches.

why make us wait the few extra days if we can have it now? it's on my pc. the only thing stopping us is some marketing BS. i paid my money 6 months ago so i hardly see how i'd even be included in those stats as it is anyway...if i am it's by creative bookkeeping which could be creatively done the same way regardless of when i start playing

Don't worry about it Brony, an application called Steam (leading PC digital distributer) allows users to download certain games before it comes out, they still can't play it, but they can at least have it downloaded.

digital distribution can sometimes pre load the game before release. it leaves it ready to go on our hard-drives so when the time comes it unlocks and we can play. it free's up the servers from having to handle it all on the day

also means we can start playing earlier on that day as well. sadly we can't play that much earlier. it's just shortcutting the time to download. darkspore however preloaded and anyone from the open beta could use their cd keys from purchasing as soon as the americans got theirs. so the europeans and aussies were online a few days ahead of their retail counterparts. would like to think the same may happen on brink but not holding my breath

Can you pre-load if you are in Europe and haven't bought the game through steam? Shouldn't pre loading be available to everyone, seeing you cant play it anyways if you haven't paid?

Thanks for telling me. There was just this whole big mamma jamma about preloading steam, and I was really confused. I kind of wanted to be in the loop. :goodjob:

Only if you bought through Steam, as that's the only way Steam knows you actually bought it.

If you bought a hard copy, you have to physically hold the case in your hands and enter a code for Steam to acknowledge your owning it.

Yet again, there are exceptions: http://arch.413chan.net/Brohoof-(n1291603148096).jpg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNqsHbKgtwM&feature=relmfu https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601

how is that an exception? you need the cd key. commonly printed on the manual of the hardcopy. impossible to enter into steam without x ray vision and the box containing the game.

not to mention that none of bethesda'a games are on that list

The exception is that you can get the game registered by Steam if you DO have the key, it is a steamworks game, after all.

Thats kinda sad, as preloading would have eased (sp?) my daily brink fever :D Well then need to wait for my copy to arrive.

Just so everyone knows, D2D also allows pre-loading, or inputting the code into Steam. :)

Credit goes to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1186225-pre-loading-available-now/, who saw the announcement on the http://www.facebook.com/brinkthegame.
