What did you Pre-order

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 4:55 pm

Classic Pack for me. Pre-ordered from gamestop cause my buddy works there and his boss is always giving him crap about "getting pre-orders". Not to mention the store is like five mins from my house. Wasn't all that excited about any of the packs to be honest tho. It all seems like gear that you can find the equivalent or even a better version (at least stat wise) in game. The only thing that is even a little appealing is the canteen but I'm sure you can find a canteen elsewhere in game as well. The only thing missing would be the "Vault 13" scrawled across it.

I wanted the Caravan Pack, but wasn't able to find a practical way to purchase it here in Australia. Instead, I went with my second choice, the Classic Pack.

I pre-ordered just to get the CE. Ebgames (Gamestop) was closest and the only one who were taking in-store pre-orders at the time. So classic pack it is.

I ordered mine from Amazon so whatever pack comes with it.

I think the packs should have been a choice no matter where you pre-ordered it from rather than having to get only one based on the store, not what you want.

I'm still trying to decide, but my real problem with deciding is the question of DRM. Depending on how different sources handle it, my decision is different Maybe you good folks will help me out on that.

The main issues are two fold: one, do you have to have the disc in the drive? I play a large number of games, and having to swap constantly is extremely annoying. I spend more time looking for the blasted disc than I do actually playing the game. For this reason I've been favoring Direct2Drive games lately, because that isn't an issue. The second is if the Steamworks DRM is going to force you to log in every time you want to play the game, in general but particularly from the version purchased via Steam. I do not like the idea being forced to log into the internet every time you want to play a rightfully purchased single player game running completely from your local computer.

Anyway, my decision boils down to this:
If Steam has mandatory login but others don't: Direct2Drive's Tribal Pack
If Steam doesn't have mandatory login (or is required everywhere) but CDs are required for store-bought versions: Steam's Caravan Pack (Leather and Shotgun are more my style)
If the CD isn't required to run the game: Best Buy's Mercenary Pack (Mainly because the bonus items in the collector's edition appeal to me.)

Can anyone help me on how the DRM's going to work? I've got 3 days left to decide in order to still get pre-order bonus. Frankly, I'm more interested in the DRM than the pre-order bonus.

No matter where you purchase the game from, Steam will not require the Disk to be in the drive after the game is installed and activated.

Steam will not require a Log In if you run the game in Off Line Mode

Now, there will be no other discussions of Steam in this thread as we already have several Steam Threads. If you have any more Steam Related questions, then use the linked thread for those. Any other Steam Posts in this thread will be deleted.

Can't resist a Vault 13 jumpsuit and The Vault Dweller's 10mm he discarded after he beat the cave rats and found a better weapon.

I wanted Vault 13 but they gave it to Gamestop which has a famous pre-order cart bug that's been around for a while and they haven't fixed. I had to settle for Steam

I didn't pre order this game because I don't need to where I live. The extra stuff might have been nice but I figure it will be easy enough to get or get better stuff anyway. And in the stores I go to I have never seen any game sold out release day or not.

All other cantens in game are only for a armour there on. If your not wearing that armour then you wont have a canteen. The canteen just reduces dehidration (Spelt wrong i know).
The vault 13 canteen can be used with any armour because it is not attached to a armour.

Pre-ordered from Amazon cuz I get free release day shipping from them and now I don't have to deal with any of the incompetents that work at the only Gamestops nearby. I really don't care about the pre-order bonus. If it's a separate code you enter in I could see myself forgetting to use it altogether.

Tribal Pack. Mainly because I don't much care about pre-order exclusives and Amazon had a good deal for release date delivery.
