Fallout won't start after new patch

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 4:26 pm

Can fix by moving the ArchiveInvalidated.bsa entry and both fallout texture.bsa after the fallout meshes.bsa

mine looks like this now in fallout_default.ini and it seems to be working

SArchiveList=Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa, AII-FNV!.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa

Fixed the patch for me. Bizarre.

it worked for me also. Someone also said renaming archiveinvalidationinvalidated also works. it was suggested fallout - aiinv!.bsa or something similar. If u do rename it, remeber to rename the .bsa file in the data folder also.

Sadly none of this has worked for me. Before today, I never used any work-arounds, archive.bsa or any other mods, nor any additional files whatsoever - Had no problems (aside from a random glitch every now and again, but hey). So since the patch its gone from working fine, to not working at all.

For reference, the launcher loads, and I click play, then Fallout goes to start but the screen is just black and locks up my PC entirely. So I don't know if this is *exactly* related to the 'not starting' issue everyone else is having, but it seemed pretty coincidental 'heh.

But yeah, so far I've: Reinstalled, did the valid cache thing, tried working the .ini's, and another reinstall following that with another verifying. Then I updated the video card drivers, and repeated all of that again, and yet its still giving me the exact same issue.. I'm at my wits end lol

I'm on Vista with an ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT with current drivers.. I think that's all the technical stuff so if anyone has any suggestions, hell, I'm all eyes. And sorry for the long post, thanks :P

Nice work Bethesda, I should have turned the auto update off, it's not the first time one of their patches has screwed things up.

I done this, the game doesn't crash but the archive invalidation isn't working.

Edit: Done it exactly like this and it's working again...
