I played my first run through on normal / hardcoe, now I'm playing Very Hard / hardcoe.
Playing without hardcoe makes the game seem lackluster. It's not so much as a challenge, but it makes the game feel like this is how it should be played. Weighted ammo can be a pain, but I'm surprised all the drugs, stimpacks, buffout, jet, etc, are not weighted. I do like the fact that you DO have to eat something though. FO3 was a joke, and I never picked up any food items, unless I needed them for a quest. The Sugar Bombs one comes to mind for making ultrajet for the ghoul living in the sewers. I'd usually only pick up high healing items, every piece of ammo I could find, whiskey, and cartons of cigarettes.
It's really a joke, you can go almost 24 hours without eating, or sleeping, and water sources are so common it just makes hardcoe too easy. I play on the 360, so there's no way to up the difficulty any further, other than the fact that I don't wear armor, other than Benny's suit, and have no followers.
It is annoying getting hit once, and having less then a 5th of health left, and eating damn near everything in my inventory, but the rate you consume things, you end up gaining more health then damage you take. Granted, they can't make a game "realistic" or you'd be dead in one shot, along with any enemy you faced. How fun would that be? Now I'm just rambling.
