The strip is pathetic

Yeah I can think of why, the lag during the assassination mission with 20 npcs in the same place was BAD.

Maybe in ten years we'll be able to have a GTA sized city in a Fallout style game, and a full hinterland of decay.

Be patient.

That is if Fallout is still popular in ten years. But think of the possibilites.....

Oh, and I noticed your avatar. SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE!

I agree, post-apocalypse or not they hyped up the Strip almost as much as Halo Reach, and was just as much of a letdown.

As someone who has went to Las Vegas, i was disappointed. I know its suppose to be the Las vegas of the 1950's, but still...Vegas should of at least been 5 times larger and filled with more things to do then one quest per casino. I mean...that tiny street that is not much bigger then my neighborhood street is what the NCR and CL are dying over? imo that "Strip" isnt even worth fighting over.

If you tell me its not possible because it would be to laggy etc etc etc....i guess thats why Gamebryo went under.

Its already derailed seeing we arn't talking about the Strip, And on a side note, There are more "Accessible" areas than "Inaccessable" areas.

On topic: The strip is'nt pathetic, I mean you can't expect everyone to be able to get in.

Not everyone has caps.. Unless your a Fallout Protogonist.

This pretty much defends the secure nature of NV.

To be honest considering the current factors that propagate current Las Vegas, and incorporating that into 2281 I am surprised that there is even one casino - say Lucky 38 - than any. The requirements for it to be thriving are really superficial in NV, after all you couldn't have NV without The Strip.

I understand your point but you should appreciate the conditions that if NV did have a 4 mile long thriving Strip it would be massively out of context, especially lore.

It was certainly possible to make the strip larger (more casinos, more quests, more everything), but it would still have been segmented into zones due to the "limitation" (we don't know exactly what it was). It would have taken alot more time to make that game, and for alot of peeps 5 casinos was 4 too many - so I think they tried to cator to the largest group of peeps as possible. We got a decent (albiet small) strip but of high quality IMHO, and also got a huge wasteland with tons of secondary locations - including the Dam - in 18 months. Weighted together I think they made a hell of alot of zone!

I've never been to Vegas so I can't relate like you can to the real-deal, but I've played a ton of video games as this one gets closer to the "feel" of such a place as I can imagine it.

From page 3, here is how it looks without the walls: http://www.newvegasnexus.com/imageshare/images/899612-1290055972.jpg

There is a performance reason of some kind as to why the broke it up, as this could Not have been the desired outcome (especially when the early trailers showed the strip open, so that was clearly the design intent)...

Agreed. Dividers are one thing. But the peculiar way casinos fall on both sides of a divider, is another entirely. That’s not an aesthetic decision, but design one.

Not only is the strip "meh", but gambling is so lackluster and boring.

Something I was thinking about earlier today, and maybe someone here can help with an answer: what did Vegas look like in the 50s? Did it have then the landmarks one would associate with modern Vegas - gaudy fake Sphinx, Eiffel Tower etcetera? I ask this because none of this stuff is in game, either intact or ruined. At first, I thought this was a missed trick; being able to gaze up at these dilapidated ruins in the same way you get to play tourist in the Mall in DC. But maybe none of this stuff was built until later, maybe 50s Vegas only had three big casinos and what we're given is a pretty decent facsimile of it. I've got no idea, does anybody else?

I was also disappointed with how underwhelming the Strip is. They should have put more quests, more buildings, and more interesting people in the Strip, in my opinion.

Well yeah, Google doesn't offer much in the way of a dialogue though. Still, I took the advice, and determined that much of the ultra-gaudy leviathan that is the modern strip was built in the seventies and later (changes in the gambling laws meaning competition from Atlantic City was the catalyst, apparently.)

Also found this pic:

Which is vey, very New Vegas I think. So no tricks missed after all.

Why would they get sued? Who would sue them? Did Bethesda get sued for using the Capitol Building and the Lincoln Memorial? San Andreas had a version of the Vegas strip in it iirc, don't remember Rockstar being sued as a result.

They probably paid the people for the rights to use the Casino Name,
Landmarks are not copyrighted or things like that.
Stores/Resturants or in this case, Casinos..

Are.

I think it's more likely they changed just enough so as to avoid copyright infringement whilst still being recognisable, which is what they would've done for New Vegas too. Perhaps I'm wrong though, I've no idea really.

If this was only on PC we wouldn't have these problems. Consoles svck!
This game is designed and produced to make money for a corporation and provide income for its employees. A console version will sell many more copies of a game than a PC version. XBox and PS3 players are funding the PC version. It's been that way for years. Does it negatively affect PC only players? Maybe, but only those able to afford (or clever enough to have built) a high-end machine.
Honestly, the PC crowd here come across like elitist snobs. Is that really the impression you are trying to convey?

This isn't crysis, but a very dated engine, 3 year old pcs could handle it easily so no high end machine is needed for this game. That's not the point, from a group of people who made their career from the money of pc gamers one would expect that limitations what the consoles impose on the game could be removed from the pc version. Sadly they didn't bother to deliver the content in the best way the medium could deliver, simply ported it for extra income and that's all it meant for them.

Of course this is hardly surprising from a company which starts to advertise ripped out context of their game before the problems with the game are fixed. Especially shocking after the level of testing they had when you have to befriend the first hostile faction in the game to get the quest to deal with them. If I think about it how they lied to people with their strip videos and comments just few months before the game came out my opinion about them just gets worse.

I will be surprised if in the pc version of rage people would have to play in shoe boxes because that's what the consoles can deal with, but well that's a different group of people...

I'm glad they didnt try to do any rips of the modern Strip, because to be very honest, the little I know, I prefer mobster 1950s Vegas over Modern Vegas. Mob run Vegas feels more like an advlt playground. Modern Strip feels so very.....suit and 'FAMILY FUN', which isnt what I'd want if I went to Vegas.

Personally i wasn't disappointed by the size of the strip. I was disappointed by the content of the Strip.

They advertised it so much, the game is almost all about the strip, couldn't they add more - random or not - encounters in it? More noise, more quests?

As for population, let's say the engine would cause problems if they added more people on the street... what about casinos though? They didn't feel like casinos at all. No immersion attempts, only a handfull of people just standing there. It was like everything was built there for yourself to play with. My grandma's cottage is more casino-like than them. That's not how things should be.

I won't even mention the unreal/stupid gambling system. 60 seconds? If you had to add a penalty make it 30 minutes or more. Slots having same bets as rulette and blackjack? Nevermind these...

The only immersion attempt was people throwing up (badly textured too) on the street...

99.999999% likelyhood its the limit of one of the consoles NOT the pc or the engine. Tho yes the gamebryo engine is a memory hog its mainly the fact we are playing 2010 games on 2004 systems. Once we get the next gen consoles with ALOT more ram that will be a thing of the past.. until the next games come out that need even more memory and blah blah blah...

In Rl..most of the buildings would be nothing but rubble and sand dunes after 200 hundred years...nuclear war or not.

Watch Life after People....amazing show. They even discussed Las Vegas.

What? If there was a nuclear war people wouldn't be hiding in vaults! What the heck are you talking about? Plus I got bored of that shows after the first few episodes.. >.<
