The strip is pathetic

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:51 pm

Ok lets be honest the strip is pathetic it's about 500 yards the strip in real life is 4 miles long theres over 20 casinos instead of 4 (only gamble in 3)and a tiny amount of quests. It looks to decayed considering it never got touched by nukes and it's the focal point of the game 3 meh casinos anyone else agree.I'd enjoy ma Gran strip more than this strip.

200 years will do that to buildings. Hell, 50 years will do that. Look at Chernobyl in Ukraine.

Actually, the city of Chernobyl is still populated and with no real problems with regards to the buildings. Prypriat on the other hand....

Chernobyl is a more recognizable name but I see your point. I suppose I can argue, but I'll just take your correction instead.

Maybe in ten years we'll be able to have a GTA sized city in a Fallout style game, and a full hinterland of decay.

Be patient.

It would look a lot better without the dividers.

I think that's a result of consoles, something to do with them not being able to handle anything too massive or active (I read that somewhere, I'm sure). As a console user, I apologise - but only halfheartedly, because I really like playing it :P

I don't feel the size of the strip to be underwhelming, in fact, if it were much bigger I think it would be too large. Now the population of the Strip, on the other hand is disappointing. It seems like every casino has more employees than guests (which is not a plausible business model).

I'm on the box so don't worry about that. I feel like they could have at least just split it in half rather than into thirds and it would be fine. As long as you install it at least, but who doesn't install games like this anyways?

Employees are tribal FAMILY members. Exploiting family is a legitimate way of making money. Get their room and board for working there, what do they need with anything more than a tiny wage?

To be fair, House has only had a couple of years to get the Strip up and running again. Naturally, there's only a few casinos that are open.

I mean, you can't reverse 200 years of structural and economic damage overnight.

For a video game the strip is pretty impressive, actually, especially seeing as how it's just what's been restored after a nuclear apocalypse. There are already a ton of quests all over the place. Did you really expect something the size of the real life Vegas strip? It would have taken years just to build that, much less the rest of the game. They could have made it large GTA-style, but the places in GTA have nothing to do in them for the most part...they're just decoration that provides more area to justify the space occupied by the roads.

Technical limitations. This engine doesn't scale well when you add lots of NPCs. The system requirements would go way up if they added more. :D

An apocalypse doesn't necessarily need to physically hit a place to destroy it. Those buildings were run-down tenements occupied by tribals and raiders for a long time. Anyway, yeah, they could have added a ton of buildings you can't go into just for decoration like they do in GTA. Not sure how much that would have added, though.

Yeah you definately need next-gen to be able to render more than 2 buildings and 5 NPCs.

I understand what the OP is saying. The game's whole central focus is on the Strip, yet the strip has around, what, 5 quests? Why can I only do one thing with the White Glove Society, and nothing with the Chairmen? I want to do more, dammit!

I think seeing it with dividers would look a lot better than not seeing it at all, this would cause a huge strain on people's systems and they would not be able to even enter the strip
