Dissapointed In the game's weapons

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 6:10 pm

Yeah but the BAR was generally used while lying down, it was NOT a hip shot weapon! (except for maybe Clyde)

It had a bipod for that reason but it was almost never used that way in combat. That's why the US military gave soldiers who used the BAR a pocket at the hip that they could slide the butt of the rifle into. In this way, it was actually encouraged to be fired from the hip. Sure, it was an unwieldy weapon to fire, but it was the precursor to the modern battle rifle concept (H&K G3, FN FAL, Springfield M14).

It was an extremely effective weapon despite its shortcomings.

Would you bother sending infiltration teams to a city of sin that you couldn't even bother nuking?

What about the nearby military base? What about Area 2? And what about assassinate/make agreement with one of the most influential man in US?

There is Chinese activity around Vegas, maybe Obsidian does have some thing under their selves (or aka cut content to make shipment date).

Although the Guns skill in general is pretty damn powerful, I was a bit disappointed that the only full-auto assault rifle in NV was the Assault Carbine which fires the smaller caliber 5mm rounds. Hell, the all the other rifles aside from the BB guns and 2/3 of the SMG's do more damage per shot. To be fair though, the recoil is a bit unrealistic so emptying a half a clip of autofire shots to the center mass of a random raider at medium range is not unheard of...

Nah, it has been done. Think it was with M1919s on the Pacific front in WW2.

Bren and BAR could definitely be fired from the shoulder. BAR even had a semi-auto mode just for that. Sadly, it was too light to be a real LMG and too heavy to be a Rifle.

Not sure about other guns. Lewis gun, maybe.

Yeah, the initial concept for the BAR was to be fired from the hip by advancing infantry... I would love to see them in the game. Maybe we could get a unique, cut down version, call it Clyde's Pride. ;)

Oh, an AA 12 might be fun too! :D

They did try to nuke vegas. Mr. House shot down the nukes with lasers and remotely deactivated them.

wow, there are so many great guns in this game, the hunting shotgun, the cowboy repeater, the 9mm pistol, the list goes on. as for automatic weapons, the 9mm submachinegun is a beauty, especially for a WW2 fanatic such as me. i've never seen a 12mm sub but i can't wait to get my hands on one :) the LMG is also pretty lethal and the 10mm while good is still just leftovers from FO:3. in short, disagree with the OP, muchly ;)

They need to add the MEC Gauss minigun from Tactics to this game.

After playing the game for some quite time, I am disappointed in the game's availability of powerful/accurate automatic weapons. I know the game has automatic weapons, but none really appeal to me :| I believe I've encountered every automatic weapon and they all disappoint.
Unless anybody knows of an automatic weapon I haven't heard of, that is powerful/accurate.

The unique minigun! The CZ57 is an absolute beast. Maybe one of the coolest weapons in the game. Its a blast to use. Very accurate for a minigun and looks awesome. Takes down crowds of whatever. Downside is the weight.

I would rather they fix energy weapons first, guns are already much better, no need to widen the gap. Energy weapons cant even peirce armour.

Done in upcoming patch. Energy weapons get a DT bypass depending on the weapon and ammo used.

Though people want to give the credit to the SG-44 I consider the BAR to be the first true assault rifle, it was just a bit heavy for use as such.

But the other guns mentioned in the post you were replying to, no doubt they would be limited to firing from support only.

I'd consider a .30-06 or 7.62x39mm about the largest round you could practically fire without a tripod or a fixed mounting on an emplacement or vehicle. That includes some guns called LMGs (like the M60 and the BAR) but also some guns that are called ARs (like the G43 in .308)

Someone even mentioned the M2... which weighs about 85 pounds WITHOUT the tripod.

I mentioned the M2 in dispute of somebody's assertion that automatic weapons firing smaller cartridges than single shot weapons was "accurate".

But realistically speaking, in a game where we can already carry around a minigun or an *automatic grenade launcher* (several of them at once, even) manhandling a Browning M2 isn't really a stretch.

I think the automatic weapons in this game have lower damage to sort of account for less chance of hitting the vital organ you are aiming at. If they increased the automatic weapon damage the only reason people would use the slow firing weapons for at end game would be extreme range sniping.

YES!

An AK-47 or M-16 (or equivlent) with a lttle thump would have been nice. The assault carbine is a pee-shooter (Assault Carbine + AP Rounds + Deathclaw(s) = Dead You), and the LMG is too heavy for me, I like to be a light as I can, and don't have the strength to handle it.

Chinese Assault Rifle PLEASE! Preforator anyone? C'MON give me a 5.56 bullet eater.

I would be nice to use an assault rifle on a deathclaw and be able to at least cripple the big guys leg with a full barrage of VATS

Also, isn't the LMG a fairly close cousin to a Browning Automatic Rifle, A high capacity, heavy wieght rifle that should be used in the prone position. Not a hip weapon.

YES!! I miss my Xualong Rifle (Special Chinese Rifle) But other than that slight let down, it is still a really good game! :D :fallout:
Now whenever I see a powerful enemy I do this ------> :bolt: Instead of :gun:

Actually you have a fair point though.

Though I'd like to point out the minigun is based on the M134, NOT the M234. Which was designed as a replacement for a squad automatic in the 70s. It is theoretically possible.

AGLs though are way out there for man-portability.

In the end though an AGL is still low-pressure, an M2 is a freaking beast, it would probably be easier to fire a 66mm mortar from the hip.

Actually, wouldn't that be freaking awesome? firing a light squad mortar from the hip in a depressed flat trajectory?
