NOOOOOOOO don't dis the 80s! That was THE Golden Era! I was a teen in the 90s, but the 80s still stick out for me as the best time! I am Generation X and I hated how I was supposed to be dark and whiny in the 90s and "rage against the machine" and feel like "despite all my rage I was still just a rat in a cage". Blech. I had much more fun and joy in my pre-teen years. 80s music, 80s hair, 80s speech, 80s fun!

No, thanks to Youtube, MP3 players, the internet, and the conclusion of the 80's, 80's music and film are more accessible than ever before and a complete collection of 80's stuff can be made. The music of the 80's didn't go anywhere nor did the films, games, electronics, etc. They're all still available, but what was so great about 80's music and movies, anyway? RoboCop can kiss Lord of the Rings' rear end, as far as I'm concerned, but if someone wants to still watch RoboCop, they can. Which economy are you speaking of, by the way? The entire world didn't have a good economy during that time period. You know what the 80's were lacking? Let's jot down the entire Fallout series, films that don't appear as though they were animated by kids playing with little toy figures, global communications to allow any of us to even be communicating with one another, and lack of numerous scientific/technological breakthroughs made in the past twenty years. My parents were living through a civil war in the 80's. What makes the 80's a golden decade instead of just a decade, like any other, from which people make complaints about the new decade(s) because it isn't a copy of their preferred decade? As you can see, I'm quite an adamant advocate of progress, not cultural and technological stagnation, but I don't understand why anyone wouldn't be. Every decade has its problems, and I'm not even using progress as an entirely beneficial term, but you don't get anywhere by freezing yourself in time. The only place I believe that truly belongs is in the Fallout series with a consistent, underlying 50's theme.

I'd really just stick with the 50's theme than go to anything 80's in the Fallout series and I just don't see any reason to connect the 80's to the series. The 1880's, 1780's, and 1680's sure weren't like the 1980's, so why should the 2280's be like that?

You make an interesting point with all the tech that we have now that we did not in the 80s, but still, I would trade it all to go back to that simpler time.

Besides, the cell phone in my opinion, is one of the biggest plagues to mankind. Sure they existed in the 80s, but they were usually tethered by a cord to your car OR they were these massive, clunky, expensive monsters that you could barely lift and almost NObody had them yet.

Now I can't have a decent conversation with ANYONE without them OR me having to answer the phone or a text. Used to be that when you went out, you were safe from phone interruptions. Now there is just no such thing.

I don't use cell phones or socialize outside of these forums, so I don't have to deal with that.

I'm a child of the mid-70's to mid-80's...loved it, miss it...but I'm not sure I can see it being applied to FNV. Not that I'd object to a mod that tried, or anything. If someone wants to try, have at it...who knows, I might love it.

But nothing in the game makes me think specifically of 80's generation. The most 80's thing I've seen in the game only came from the dance mod and watching Arcade/Raul do what I'd consider the signature 80's "white folk dance move" that the once not-family-friendly Eddie Murphy loved to make fun of.

And I still don't have a cell phone, or ipod, or ipad, or i-anything, either.

I want a time machine! Hanging out at the mall with my friends, guys driving muscle cars, music where people did more than bang on a guitar and growl into a microphone, John Waters movies, big hair, acid washed jeans. We played games at arcades and had never heard of an internet. We called our friends instead of texting them and if they were already on the phone you were screwed since there was no such thing as call waiting.

Does the game remind me anything of the 80s? No, but if someone makes an 80s mod I am so there.

80s music and economy was far from great.

Some of the outfits could fit the eighties, but combine the boomers suits, bandanas, merc outfits, shades, aviator glasses, chems, booze, fiends, Khans.. etc you get quite the 60's flower child - 70's radical vibe - born to be wild in character look imo.
It would be fun to see what decade style character you can make and post screenshots I think.

Music being good or bad is a matter of taste. I personally hate the pop and rap that's become popular in recent years and would gladly accept 80's music. As for the economy, it's impossible to compare economies due to the sheer number of variables, so let's not go there.

Well, as others have said, the universe isn't the same as our own-it diverges in the timeline after the '50s and continuously becomes more and more distinct from ours thereafter. By the '80s, it would NOT be the same there as it was here. Not in any aspect of culture, most likely, with the exception of an inkling of similarity maybe.

Plus you're talking about the culture, in the U.S., in the 1980s, not the 2280s. That's a whopping three centuries apart. And so far from what I learned in history, decades that are essentially the same number-but a century+ apart-aren't the same in culture.
The 1780s or the 1880s, for example, aren't much-if at all-like the 1980s.

Look at how popular romanticized medieval settings are. People find the past they are unfamiliar with to be an intriguing place and as time goes on, it is easy to forget about the bad stuff and focus only on what people enjoy from the era in question.

I'm twenty something but have a great memory and the 80's were a dreadful time for quite a few places, and many people...
The poster who mentioned the destruction of mental health care, poverty, taxes etc must be a brit, as that's what we had to put up with.. and most of the most popular music was neau romantic, or faux girl punk.
And the nineties all I can say spice girls cough... aghhh ... cough.
