The Sad Things in the Background

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 9:07 pm

I was walking east of Black Mountain through a walkway to the east of the radioactive crater and found a skeleton with its arm stuck in the ground and some unseen force was causing the rest of of skeleton to try and levitate off the ground. It caused the skeleton to rock back and forth and rotate around a little. It was sad and funny at the same time.

Of course, me being the curious little f***er that I am, I jumped on top of the skeleton to see if it would hurt me like my previous interactions with moving skeletons... It saddens me to report it didn't hurt a lick.

I find those random skeletons you find along the highway sad. Oh and boulder city, finding that ranger holotape made me really depressed. Fixed that after I cut some stuff up with my machete

... that "unseen force" is the collision engine. That happens because the arm of the skeleton is not supposed to be stuck in the ground.. It is really bad placement of the skeleton in the map.

Don't forget about Pretty Sarah. She got it a whole hell of a lot worse than Betsy.

What makes me sad is that I can't help her, because i've sided with the legion. No way im making it into that camp. :cryvaultboy:

Her background makes me give Cook Cook a 5.56 mm enema.

I wouldn't wish what happened to Sarah and Betsy on anyone, except perhaps Cook Cook himself. Ever since I found out what Cook Cook does, I made it a point with every character I have to kill him in the most brutal and painful manner possible. It usually culminates in me hacking his limbs off with a machete.

Came across a brahmin farm, a boy's parents had become feral ghouls from radiation poisoning, and he went mad after he had to kill them. He was afraid his cows were going to eat him, so he locked himself in his house and lit it on fire.

This gets my vote.

There have been a lot of truly poignant moments in the series—notes to loved ones, situational skeletal vignettes, side-quest story lines, even; but this one is deserving of a Twilight Zone episode. The aftermath in a nutshell.

Taken as a whole, however, all these minor assaults on ones humanity show the truly good writing that has gone into this game.

It's even worse because the only reason there's a worthwhile reward for that quest is that some other guy who had a fancy gun was locked inside. :P

There's also about 6 or so crates with 150+ caps apiece in the room. I usually also grab one of the badges too, what the hell.

In the cave north of Jacobstown, filled with invisible Nightstalkers, there's a heavily locked room that a post-war survivor was using as a shelter.

Reading his log, you get the impression that he has his sights set on a mother and her young daughter who are taking residence in the Jacobstown resort house. The log heavily implies that he wants to capture them, and use them both as six slaves. The writers didn't write a conclusions to this scenario - it's up to the player to decide what happened. Looking at the amount of resources the pervert had, things probably didn't end well for the mother and daughter.

In one of the chalets in jacobs town is a scene of carnage ( skletons ) and party ( wrong choice of word I know. but booze and other items scattered around ).
I think this was how that ended, whether he got killed or they did is another matter.

Feral ghouls, they now talk "must defend" at least in some areas, which implies that they're far from just mindless fodder.
Makes me pause a bit before heading into areas with them in.

I don't ever recall EVER hearing any of them say that. Proof? :unsure2:

Ok it took a while and it's not the exact line ( I may have remembered wrong ).
But heres proof and I have other lines, the games not modded, and with no proof to this I rarely lie and never over anything so small.

In one play-thought Sunny Smiles's dog died and she got upset.
Had to reload after that.

I hate killing the ghouls who talk...
"Get away!!"
"PAIN!"

You just know that some of their brain is left intact to make out words.
