The Sad Things in the Background

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 8:08 pm

I felt really bad when I had to shoot up a coyote den mother and her pups. :(

I hope someone makes a realistic wildlife mod soon. I don't think coyote pups should instinctively kamikaze a heavily armed threat :spotted owl:

They defend their mama!

I would.

The corroded traffic jam tugged at the strings a little. It also made me a little nervous approaching it.

The end of the halo tape left by the legion at the raided ranger base when he said they 'took one of the women'.

In the cave north of Jacobstown, filled with invisible Nightstalkers, there's a heavily locked room that a post-war survivor was using as a shelter.

Reading his log, you get the impression that he has his sights set on a mother and her young daughter who are taking residence in the Jacobstown resort house. The log heavily implies that he wants to capture them, and use them both as six slaves. The writers didn't write a conclusions to this scenario - it's up to the player to decide what happened. Looking at the amount of resources the pervert had, things probably didn't end well for the mother and daughter.

The thing that got me the most was in fallout 3. I was rummaging through some houses in Minefield when I came across two skeletons embracing on a bed. There have been many instances in 3 and NV that make an impact, but none surpass this for me.

They actually don't aggro you right away. They give you a warning growl and if you back off, they won't aggro. If you stay despite their warning, they will attack. The same goes for bighorners.

Crashed planes always give me the chills for some reason. And then there's also the Animal Husbandry... bwdrrrr. I'm a jaded bastard, but even I got the willies there. Well done, Obsidian.

As for the crows, I always shoot them. One time I got lucky and instead of a kill got a "limb crippled" result, so the game told me "Raven Crippled". Like, entire raven, I guess. It still flew away.

It's even worse because the only reason there's a worthwhile reward for that quest is that some other guy who had a fancy gun was locked inside. :P

Edit: And Vault 11. Man. They kept sacrificing people even though Vault-Tec never expected them to.

Don't forget about Pretty Sarah. She got it a whole hell of a lot worse than Betsy.

That reminds me... I had an idea for a screenshot vignette of me killing his cow and then him... I need to go do that.

This is why I take the Animal Friend Perk as as soon as possible. Don't like killing the animals when all they want to do is live.

I agree with whoever said that That Gun should have been in the crashed Highwayman. I might make a mod like that for myself...

I also agree that the kid at the farm who burned the house down was sad. I felt bad for all of the livestock, too. I wish you could have talked to people in the NCR or otherwise that they were there.

I think Obsidian messed up on that part. Because if we preform a mercy kill, NCR goes hostile. Gee, Pardon me for thinking an NCR trooper with no arms or legs groaning 'kill me' is considered wrong in your eyes.

Sounds like a win win :P
