Intense dislike for a game

Modern Warfare 2. I hate this game with a burning passion of fiery... hate. It's full of little boys who call other kids as well as advlts "kids". "Look at this kid hardscoping". Oh yeah, that's another thing: Quickscoping ruined CoD. If you're good at it, it is way to overpowered, yet people love to show it off and brag that they can spin around and shoot you after you put half of clip of bullets into them. It should have been recognized as over-powered from the start. Sometimes you do very well and destroy the other team despite their quickscoping. What do you get when you return to lobby? A hailing barage of screaming kids voices, static, and generally them all saying something along the lines of "WHY U TRYIN SO HARD? YOU CAN'T BEAT ME 1v1 QUICKSCOPE [censored]. [censored]. [censored]. [censored]. GET OUT OF HERE KID. UMAD? [Generic joke having to do with their genitals and your girlfriends/mothers genitals and the size of said genitals]" All I would expect is a "Good game man!". But that's too much to ask for coming from the typical CoD community. Not hating on anyone that plays the game, but you surely see the flaws in those kinds of players? Whenever I do play, it's mic out for me or else I tend to start having to yell back and insult them back and say things about their genitals and such. I'm too young to be having high blood pressure.

Personally I love Mass Effect. The character development was phenomenal and I thought the story was top notch as well. Exploration and side quests were dull, but stick to the main story and I can play the game many-a-time. I think I have played it 9 times in the past. Now the second Mass Effect? That's different. Short, short story. 80% of time you are recruiting people or getting their loyalty. Although did like it, it did not live up to my hopes.

Completely agree with the OP on Mass Effect. If I were to design my ideal vision of a space fantasy RPG, ME would be the antithesis of it.

I also find Dragon Age: Origins to be cringeworthy, and its sequel repulsive. That so many seem to hold that series up as some shining example of story, roleplaying or dark fantasy is laughable to me.

Still, computer games are easy things to ignore.

But those little idiots infect just about every multiplayer FPS on consoles, and even some on PC. CoD almost certainly has the biggest population of them but it's far from isolated to CoD.

What exactly didn't you like about it other than it not being your "ideal vision?" I just don't get how someone can hate a game because it didn't live up to what they had envisioned in their head. If you purchased Mass Effect with this perfect space RPG in mind and didn't do any research on the game before doing so, then it's not the game's fault you didn't like it. There are a lot of things I'd do to improve Mass Effect, but if I went around hating every game for what it wasn't instead of what it was, I'd never like any game.

There's always something I like in certain games and something I dislike. Intense dislike for a particular game etc can't be healthy. Sounds more like an obsession to anything that carries the name just because you didn't like some elements that existed in one of the games with that name.

I never listen to any hype. ME and ME2 are different. They changed controls, scrapped some key elements that I thought were fun, concentrated more on shooter elements than character development/RPG and also tuned down the number of upgrades and interchangable upgrades by a great deal.

Even so, both were fun, could be better. I like the idea of importing ME saves into ME2 for a starting point. There are certainly a few paths you can take through the game. There also were some surprises in the story of ME2 to me.

I can't see a reason to intensily dislike a game. Well, if the interface was unusable and the game was unreasonably difficult, I might wipe the installation directory and make a mental note to never try it again. However, if I pay big money for a game, I have a tendency to struggle through it anyways just so that I could uninstall it and not think I wasted my money.

Two Worlds.

Two Worlds 2!!!

I bought that pile of junk on release day, it started off well, looked really nice, and then the further I got through the game, the more i hated it!

moronic button mashing combat, poor assassins creed type cloning, dungeons locked till quest released, terrible loot and lack of, the game is just....meh.

I thought the first one was more fun.

Moving away from a fairly strict focus on multiplayer and your typical war settings might help. Folks used to complain about how World War II as a setting was run into the ground, but war in general feels so terribly generic these days. There's plenty of opportunity elsewhere, even if it's a story-driven title that focuses on a more personal experience, à la BioShock.

War shooters should still exist as quite a few people like 'em, but there are far greener pastures that've yet to be explored for no good reason.

I'd rather they go the other way, scrap singleplayer completely, and focus on making the best possible multiplayer experience possible.

Some people just don't get the appeal of multiplayer FPS games and think it's just about people running around like headless chickens endlessly killing each other. It's really not. For a lot of people, the appeal of multiplayer FPS games comes from joining clans and competing in serious leagues and tournaments. The problem with recent COD and Battlefield games is, they really haven't done a good job of supporting this style of gameplay. Instead, they dangle a carrot in front of the player in the form of ranks and unlocks and encourage very anti-social gameplay. You're expected to work towards your own goals, get bored, and move onto the next annual release.

In actual fact, there needs to be both. Exclusively single-player FPS games with a really deep and involving story, and exclusively multiplayer FPS games offering the best online experience possible. I hate how developers feel the need to produce both for one game - and that goes for a lot of genres, not just the FPS genre.

As for the setting, I kind've agree... WW2 was exhausted, and now the same has happened to modern warfare. Getting rid of war entirely isn't necessarily the solution... they just need to get more creative - like making up wars along with completely fictional weapons. The main thing is, it doesn't have to be futuristic to be made up.

It wasn't a criticism of the game, but rather an expression of my dislike for it. For me, everything about it is wrong; the setting, the storylines, the characters, the themes, even the genre (insofar as it can be considered something other, or more specific than, an RPG). I'm not saying they did anything wrong; I just don't like what they did (a distinction that seems lost on many people, sadly). Maybe I've misunderstood the topic of the thread.

And I play very few games, so doubtless you're right on the last point as well. :)
