" I always drive defensively, assume the other person is going to make a mistake on the road "
Assuming there is some other idiot about to make a mistake is the best advice i would give anyone to be honest.
The amount of times at a roundabout near my house this has saved me is incredible.
2 lanes. More than wide enough for 2 cars to go side by side, but i tend to hang back anyway, because for some reason people treat it as a single lane roundabout. Absolutely no idea why, it is clearly marked as 2 lanes.
Not that long ago me and the car beside me were sitting waiting to go out and the other person veered left as soon as they pulled out and just about rammed me before i got onto the bloody roundabout, again caution saved me and i managed to swerve enough for them to miss. If i hadnt been looking or paying full attention, that would of been a hit.
Then you get the other idiots cutting corners. Especially on country roads. If your on a country road and its only wide enough for 1 car, still stay as far over to your own side as you can. At least if your gonna hit someone its hopefully not gonna be a headon, or else you both might be able to swerve enough to get into the side.
I can honestly see why some people dont like driving or dont want to even go for the test. Its not yourself you need to worry about usually, its every other maniac on the road.
