Biggest Gaming Disappointments of 2011

Post » Wed Sep 07, 2011 2:52 pm

Hmm not many disappointments this year. L.A. Noire wasn't as fun as I expected, but then again I don't even like that era so it's not too surprising.

That's actually the closest thing to a disappointment, everything else has been somewhat what I expected.

it has more quests, and about the same number of weapons as FO3 with dlc. but other than that the rest of the game was very lacking, much content was completely ignored, such as random encounters, details among the wrecked and burnt out buildings and a significantly smaller map.

however, not all the dlc has come out yet so in the end it probably will have more content.

There is no random encounter in FO3, they are just Scripted events, annoying ones, you can have a moment of tranquility with NCP spawing every 4 or 7 minutes around you :banghead:

Nope, include dlc and |NV still has more.

Fine.
Fine
Fine.

But it also had a branching main quest and did a much better job of making characters feel different. Fallout 3 they played the same. In NV my characters feel different, and becuase of that replay value it makes up for the smaller map imo.

Guys, please, let's not try and make this thread get closed due to another flame war regarding NV and FO3. Also, discuss disappointment over 2011 titles, not last year's. I mentioned New Vegas because I myself got it in 2011.

Skyrim being infected with Steamworks and being dumbed down even further was a disapointment but once again not a really surprising one.

I agree 100%. Only reason I'm not getting Skyrim is because of Steamworks.

From that list DA2 and Homefront are the only disappointments I played, and I rented them both.

Have to say Dragon Age 2 too. Still got nearly 200 hours of playtime from it, so i don't consider it wasted money, only wasted potential :hehe:

As opposed to what? Games For Windows Live? Get with the times, Steam is fantastic.

As opposed to nothing. Besides, that's not a very good reason for going along with something. :P

Steam is different things to different people. It may be the most user-friendly DRM currently in use, but it's still DRM. It's also baggage if you have no need/use of its services. I don't particularly have a problem with it, but I can see why others would.

That's just your opinion though. I don't have a problem with Steam as such but I understand many others do. I think it's silly of Beth to force Steam upon gamers who wish to buy Skyrim for PC. Also, people aren't ruling out that Skyrim's PC launch will be as messy as the NV one, due to Steam exclusivity, another thing which could of been avoided if Beth had made Steam at least optional.

I'm rather surprised at the ammount of negativity about Skyrim, particularly over Steamworks. Without dragging the thread off topic, can someone just give me the gist of why Steamworks would affect them buying the game?

Anyway, back on topic. Dragon Age 2 was easily the most dissapointing game of the year. I loved Origins with a passion, but DA2 was a horrible rushed mixed abomination of Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Anime. It removed most of what I loved about Origins and replaced it with a game designed solely to appeal to a mass market to squeeze as much cash as possible from the consumers.

Not happy Bioware.

Mass Effect 2.

Dragon Age 2 from what I've read and heard about it, can't really say for certain as I haven't played it and don't intend to.

The only games I bought in 2011 so far have been The original three Fallouts and Deus Ex: HR and I loved them. But the Fallouts each over a decade old so never mind them. Deus Ex was a very pleasant surprise, great game. I expected a little something different but I really enjoyed it.

Maybe they dont like supporting seam because of the damn thing taking over the digital market. Allthough not much to compete with.

I dislike Bioware, but I did like that they had Welsh accents in the game... I am waiting for the "ultimate" edition. Learned that with DAO. Even then I will wait till its pre owned and cheap. Not in a hurry to play it.

As for skyrim hate, I just dont like what im hearing. It just sounds like its being dumbed down and romance has no place in skyim. Games with good writers cant make romance good, and this is Bethesda writers...

How is the above guy a dino if he only recently played the old fallouts ?

Dead Space 2-Heard good thing about it but haven't played it.
Killzone 3-Bought it and loved the Single Player but MP was a let down.

Portal 2-Bought it and loved it.
Brink-Bought it once it dropped in price and hated it
LA. Noire- Pretty good game didn't live up to my expectations.
F.E.A.R. 3-Didn't enjoy the first one when I bought it a month ago so I'm iffy on getting this.
The Withcer 2-Waiting for the 360 version, its a must have.
Infamous 2-PLayed for a little bit but lost interest, i might borrow it from a friend or buy it when its cheap.
NCAA Football 2012-Not a must have but always fun
Dues Ex: Human Revolution-Heard plenty of good things about it but I'll wait on it.
Lord of The Rings:War in the North-It has no chance in November.
Madden NFL 12-Bought it and enjoying it.
Dead Island- Playing it right now and I'm having a blast.
Gears of War 3-A must have.
Rage-Keeping my eye on it.
Batman: Arkham City-Didn't think the first one was as great as everyone said it was but so it can wait.
Battlefield 3-Must have
