Probably Morrowind, that's all that is coming to mind right now.

The most immersive game I have ever played would have to be Dragon Age: Origins.

Morrowind, of course; the first time you see the night sky, for only one example.
VTM:Bloodlines was extremely immersive, at least the first time I played it (less so on a recent replay). Nothing like being on the Santa Monica beach at night with the boombox playing "Smaller God".
Omikron had immersive times also.
Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, definitely; going to the bar and hearing the jazz flute music playing, which was incongruous but beautiful.
Homeworld. You found yourself caring whether the survivors make it back to the homeworld.

Still haven't seen a coherent definition of the I-word, but....

....I have never forgotten I'm playing a game, as far as I can recall. But that's fine, because my goal is to play a game.

I'm the same, maybe the vague definition of 'immersion' in my head is too strict. I've played plenty of games that have a lot of atmosphere, a rare one where I've perhaps had a level of emotional attachment to a character (I can't think of an example) but in all cases it always just a game. The pro to this as I see it is that I'm a lot more tolerant of gamey mechanics than it seems those that want/need immersion are.

Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer.

The only game that had me playing it non-stop for 14 (fourteen) hours. Good times.

Immersive games? Hmm, no third person game I guarantee you that.

You'd think fallout new vegas, thanks to hardcoe mode, but that's not the case. I actually have not found any really immersive games as of yet, not fallout 3 or oblivion.

I want to add Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. There were times I didn't even eat to play this game. Best 4X ever imo.

I'm one of those people that have never forgotten I was simply playing a video game, but to answer the question Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, and Legend of Zelda are all games that pull me into the feel of the world and the characters.

I've never forgot Iwas playing a game, but two come to mind:

ARMA II: It's easy to spend an hour or more planning out tactics ingame with your friends online and being completely taken over by the realism of it. After working on a plan, then comes the intensity of hoping it works out. Keeps you on edge the entire time

Oblivion: The only game where I have really tried roleplaying. It's nice to wake up, eat breakfast, watch the sun rise, and hunt or hang around all day instead of treating it like an FPS or powergaming.
