Relationships With Gamers

My wife isn't a gamer. She plays games. But not real games. She plays games on her Android phone, she'll play those cutesy games on the Wii, but other than that. Nope.

I play games that involve me killing things. She plays games like that Mickey paint game.

For those of you that have a significant other that is also a gamer, does having a shared interests in video games help your relationship in any way?

My wife is a gamer (playing an MMO is how we met), and so was my last ex, but games are only one of many interests a person can share with another, so I never valued any one interest too highly, as it's quite unrealistic, and values an interest over the person their self -- making it, to me, something more equivalent to a fast food menu instead of accepting another person for who they are and what interests they have that comes along with said person.
