When I was a Lifeguard I had a co-worker named Sock. Sock Barnes. I have no idea who names their kid after foot apparel.

I work in registration at my local hospital and today I saw what I think as the most redic name ever. La-a (name of 5year old)

so i was asking the mother standard questions when i tried pronouncing her childs name as la ah she got rude and said MY KIDS NAME IS LA DASH A... so the kids - in her name actually stood for the word Dash.... I facepalmed so hard inside

anyway what are some of the worse names uve seen

Sadly this isn't a one time thing... I think someone at my school or somewhere near had the same name.

Um, sure someone didn't misinterpret the name when it was put into the system? If that's how the system runs?
"Spell the name?"
"La - dash - a"
(entered as la-a)
Makes sense to me

As for unusual names,
A friend of the family is named Sunshine; she goes by "Sun". Ran into another Sunshine somewhere else, but can't remember.

Students named Elvis, Justice, and Heavenly.

For names? I met a man named Darko once XD
I'm not kidding.

What's so strange about that? It's a proper name, it's the Slavic version of Darius. Apparently it's fairly common in places like Serbia and Croatia.

Anyway, I think the worst naming job has to be the New Zealand parents that wanted to name their kid "4Real", because when he was born they knew it was "for real". Fortunately, numbers aren't allowed in names in NZ, so http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1559705/This-babys-name-is-not-4Real-couple-told.html.

I would have called her "Lahyphena", then. You'd still be pronouncing it correctly, since the mother insisted on having the line sounded out :P.

I've come across some...odd names in my time. In high school, I knew a guy named Ben Toavar (sounds like "bent over") and another named Richard Hedd (he got a lot of grief). I work with a guy named William Cox (who goes by "Willie"). Other odd names I've come across:

Buttons (teenage girl)
Twinkles (grown woman)
Jim Schoartz (sounds like "gym shorts")
Justin Kaiss (sounds like "just in case")
Jack Frost (father of a friend)
Thai Mai Shu (name tag on a guy at a Chinese buffet, I think it was a joke)
Then, of course, there's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/dike_Trickle (I thought this was a symptom, not a name)

Then there are the not-so-strange-but-still-noteworthy names like:
Adam West (co-worker at UPS, goes by "Batman")
Chris Reave (co-worker at UPS, goes by "Superman")
Michael Knight (former UPS co-worker)
James Kirke (co-worker at my first job)

We had a neighbor when I was growing up named Frank Norman Stein.

Wait...Frank N. Stein was your neighbor? Please tell me he didn't become a doctor...

My sister knows someone named Van Gina. My great uncles' first names were Hurlin, Sterlin, and Whirlin. Those are all I can think of.

I work as a mailman, so I see a lot of weird surnames. My favorites include:

- Saren
- Kriegsman (Swedish for "war man")
- Borg
- Pron
- Barbari (one "a" short of "barbarian")
- Hell
- Junttila (roughly: "land of the hillbillies")
- Zeus (personal favorite)

I went to school with a Joe King. He always got a lot of stick for that when his name was called in the register.

I have a pretty unusual surname. I get asked about it wherever I go. At first even facebook wouldn't let me have a profile with my real name because they thought it was fake.

OP This must be a common occurence since this is the 5th time I've heard of such a thing in 3 years

Its always a black woman

she's always rude

its always spelled the same.

so either this is some meme or that woman REALLY needs to get use to her stupidity (well I think its stupid)

Went to school with a guy named Thomas Thomas.

Also, there used to be a guy in the phone book (he got a lot of prank calls) named Harry Paratestes. People can be cruel, I guess.

That reminds me.

I used to have a friend in highschool who would phone guys named "James Bond" in the phonebook and give them random missions.

I once genuinely met somebody called Michael Hunt. I couldn't believe someone's parents could be either so cruel or so thoughtless.

I think he ended up as a DJ in Liberty City.

The president of Yuengling brewery is named, dike.

Yeah, that's right... dike Yuengling.

It's an Anglicized version of Jüngling, or "young man" in German. Go where you want with that...
