Bethesada may be making most of the money on PC!

I highly doubt it, most consumers on pc just pirate the game.

Don't know how the myth sprouted, but I know well 95% of my friends who play console pirated most their games.

I don't know where either of these statements are coming from.

It's true that a lot of PC gamers do pirate their games, but not most of them. Not even close.

And TinyHowie, your friends are the exception not the rule. Most people who play on the console DO NOT pirate their games. I don't know an exact number, but the reason DRM has not infected most console games is because Pirating is not as much of a problem. Although, the problem is actually growing, and I assume it won't be long before DRM is required for ALL gaming, or at least all major titles.

Then ignore the sales figures and compare 1 copy of the game PC DD/PC Retail/Console and you will see that the greatly increased profit margin that Steam offers (between 60-75% of the purchase price goes to the publisher versus industry standard 35% found in retail) is substantial enough that even if both consoles combined sold twice as many copies as the PC, the profits from the PC DD sales would be about the same.

DD is the way of the future thanks to the lack of cost. It is unfortunate that we won't see any benefit in the form of reduced prices, but such is the nature of greed.

I don't deny that there is a greater profit margin on DD than on retail, but I do think your twice sold in retail for console than DD sold on steam is quite easily the case, probably more tipped in favor.

I think we can just assume that the game is going to sell well on all platforms.

Oh wait my mistake, ALL my friend pirated most of their games, and even the game developers I know of pirated some of their games. Calling them exception is just ignoring the obvious picture of the market. DRM never helped stopping piracy, console encryption never helped, hell nothing helped, ever. The DVDs got cracked the second day it was out and spred through all Chinese websites. You Americans are likely different. I'm a Chinese, yarrr is my mother tongue. You can always blindfold yourself from the greatest pirate nation in the world, hell let's not go any further, it's a thread locking topic. Let's just say when it comes to illegal logistic, 1/5 world population are experts.

Anyway let's get back on topic. I really enjoy downloading copies. Boxed games nowadays contain nothing substantial for me to take up space in my house. Remember the huge manual from Falcon 4.0 and Baldur's Gate 2? They are no more, huge boxes with only a small disc, what a waste, strip the box away and you think you're buying a pirated disc. Retail shops in my opinion is only good for collector's box sets. I often purchase a digital copy then a physical collector boxset for any game that I really like. e.g: Rift
