Unique texturing apreciation

That was a quote from Carmack I came across. He's also said Doom 4 looks at least twice as good as Rage, but he's not exactly the most objective source. If you really want information on future games from id the only real source is Carmack and I'd do a search for anything he's ever said.

Ah, thanks dude, I'll try and catch news as it goes by. I did hear about Doom 3 looking much better than RAGE, and evryone I've told that to has looked at me with a "You've got to be kidding, how are they gonna manage that" sort of look on their face. You know the one...

Rage is the way it is because it was built for consoles. I am disappointed that so much potential was wasted just to cram it into the consoles, both very limited machines.

Respect is earned not demanded.

Lets make this perferctly clear, I don't care if you are dissapointed with id.
it is when you throw out comments that disrespect other gamers that i take issue.
talking down to console gamers is childish, and we don't deserve your disrespect. We are gamers just like you, who want to have fun playing games. I don't want your resopect. What i want is for you to not actively disrespect consloe gamers.
Huge difference.

if you continue to talk down to console gamers, wont ask you to try and be civil, i will simply report you... Because honestly, you ruin the experience of this gaming community.
I can't even make an apreciation thread without misdirected negativity tainting it.

We have do-see-doe'd around this for months, but rage was not built for consoles. stop saying it was, because it simply is not true.
Rage, more specifically tech 5 is a starting point for games to be developed simultaneously across ALL platforms.
It was not built for consoles. It was built for all platforms.
It is something that has not been done before.
You don't tell the Wright brothers they were lame because they couldnt get a plane to fly at first- because they were most certainly onto something, even if it took a few itterations to get worked out perfectly.

And finally, this thread relates to mega-textures.
Stop hijacking to make it about other stuff.

Now that we are on topic, i will reply to the only part of your posting in this thread that actually has the slightest to do with the topic.
Blurry textures have nothing to do with consoles
it has everything to do witht the fact that it is impractical for even PC users to load over 1 terabyte fo textures onto their machines.
Can it be done? yes. but it would be a niche game that very few would be able to play.

The artists did an amazing job, painstakingly painting all of the textures on this game.
Thank you, artists and thank you id for thinking in a new direction, i can't wait to see what you can do to further this technology.

I hold the consoles responsible for a great deal of the dumbing down of games. There is so much money in simple games for consoles that it has adversely affected game development in general. I dislike consoles for this reason. I have little respect for consoles although I have friends who use them. I am a serious gamer, it's my hobby, and I love playing well built video games. Rage did not make that category in my book.

I have been civil, feel free to report me to whomever you please. Too bad your threads don't go your way but this an open forum.

There is no doubt Rage was built for consoles. Carmack and others have said it was their lead platform and testers had to use controllers.
I can push my strong machine into lag and freeze in very kinetic situations simply by forcing large textures. My machine is still idling at that point and the cross compiled game does not stress my hardware at all. That is because it's built for much weaker consoles.

Unique texturing appreciation is the title and I don't. Simple enough for you. I understand you do not like dissent but I don't care at all.

I have said nothing about blurry textures in this thread.

I understand you think the game is great and you sure do spend a lot of time here defending it. I think it is badly flawed and will say so whenever I please.

Skyrim sits on my computer waiting and so I'll prolly leave you alone for a while starting tomorrow. I expect a much better experience than Rage but we'll see.

Well start another thread about it then. Because right now you're hijacking this one.

I was responding to a comment actually. As I said I blame some of Rage's fail on the art. Which is on topic.
