SKYRIM Configuration Tool - A Heaven for graphical madman ;)

I've found that ugridstoload=7 is most stable about 7 hours without single crash and nice visuals.

Kind of off topic but......
What about LOD distance can I mess with that using this thing and increase the range? I ask because I get this annoying pop in:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wx1nMzv3t1M

not my video but I get the same thing on the "safe" imperial walls :down:

It deos increase distance for better quality LODS, Haren hasn't a clue what he is talking about.

what about AI from so far away? any quest bugs or like a courier that never showed up etc?

I use uGrids 9 myself with no negative effect, that I have noticed. Not to say something hasn't gone wrong somewhere, I just have yet to see it.

Edit: Added quote.

Heh, if you want some quick giggles, start a new game with your ugridstoload at 9 and wait for the wagon to approach the gate. :P

I didn't see anything odd on any of my games with uGrids9 and the gate. I just tried again, everything looks/works as it's supposed to.

What was I supposed to see?

Hrm, for me the wagon hits the gate and goes spiraling in the air and then rolls around on the ground. This happened to someone else as well.

Going over 9 is probably pointless as 9 gives you decent landscapes and NPCs miles off in the distance anyway.
Also, anyone putting the ugrids up should maybe try hanging around teh Falkreath area and watch their FPS drop massivily.

I could get above 9 to load up, but not always as it would stick in the loading screen a lot.
9 seems to be a more reliable setting.

yeah 9 hit me pretty hard on the frames. heh and yeah Falkreath, and north of riften are 2 great areas for testing.

The config tool (with the use of the threading options) did seem to make it smoother, no fps added just smoother.

The only downside to using higher Ugrids is the effective Vram used will drastically increase due to cell loading, since the grids are by row/column. the standard ugrids of 5 is 25 total cells being loaded, 7 is 49, 9 is 81, etc. So increasing the point where full render/Ai pathing starts is going to increase the load of the game substantially.

You should I would love to compile a long vid of Skyrim lolfail.

@ Riakon Thanks for explaining how it effects AI because as I read all the grids loaded also load the AI inside them as well(which makes sense) my concern was what if I am missing or triggering events over the hills that I won't see and thus miss out on due to the wider draw range.

Which threaded checkboxes did you enable? Did you do any fps testing before and after?

I've enabled all threaded checkboxes, game runs smoother with ugrids to load 7 and everything else maxed ( i have shadows at 4096).
Ive added some variables about ram usage under [Papyrus] in the Skyrim.INI, game is more stable (ugridstoload at 9 or higher seems stable at first but likely to crash after some time):

[Papyrus]
fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0
bEnableLogging=0
bEnableTrace=0
bLoadDebugInformation=0
iMinMemoryPageSize=100000
iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000
iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=8000000000 (for 8gb ram installed on your computer)

personally a good balance is ugrids 7.... 9 if you can manage it.. but the higher the value.. the more unreliable/unstable it can be..... and more likely you'll experience the infinite load (which can sometimes be fixed by alt tabing out and back into the game)

Do not set this value.... the game is 32bit... you can cause yourself some SERIOUS issues... it's completely pointless. actually i don't think the game technically reads this line so your more than likely going to experience a placebo effect... OR the game ignores it completely due to it being an invalid value...

it shouldn't technically exceed 2gb

and even then 2gb s excessive. Need to make room for other important stuff within the game that the papyrus doesn't include

Personally if I can't push 9 I have no interest in 7 at all.....7 does half the job and according to the Karate Kid 2....second place in no place!

Messing with uGrids is a very, very bad idea. It will fail eventually and it will bork your save.

Yeah, if you bckup your saves, skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini there is nothing to worry. If you want to be 100% safe just use 7 ugrids to load.

If you experienced massive fps drop try turn antialias off and shadows resolution at 1024, it helps a lot and let Youo to max other settings

So many places were 7 just felt like 5 or maybe to be fair a tiny bit less bad. 9 makes a huge difference from 5 buttttttttttttttttt there's one they fear.....lol jk. Would love to run a heavily modded 9 when all the patching dies down.
