Why is there no multiplayer?

Because you'd be curb-stomped by people who abuse the smithing/enchantment exploits to be all-powerful. While it would be nice to team up with people to take down dragons, you'd be more likely to run into "griefers" who would ruin your experience.
Quoted for Truth. Back in the Ice Age, this is exactly how the Quake Neathandrals invaded the Brittania universe and ruined Ultima Online. I'm still counting my blessings that Bethesda has decided to still support the single player gamer with TES universe. Especially with the increasing market trend devs are taking these days in the gaming industry---transforming classic single player games into online Facebook/social network PvP experiences that are second to orgasim.

And I agree with everyone except the OP. The Elder Scrolls would be worthless if they added multi-player. It is perfect as a single-player game, if you want multi-player, go play WoW with the rest of the kids in your middle school class. Leave the Elder Scrolls alone.
What you said here just epitomized that satire on WoW that Southpark did a few years back. Good times.

Multiplayer+ES= Likely fail

You know, Bethesda really should of put like a co-op compaign in the game, or atleast online PvP. I mean come on. I really enjoy this game and the rest of the elder scrolls games, but seriously. Playing ohur after hour by yourself talking to the game get kind of irritating sometimes. Because You sit there hoping that you could have someone that could help you kill dragons AND talk to you. But Really, why wouldn't they add that?

Because it would not be a RPG anymore but a linear MPG. In other words, if people want to play a MPG then they should not play a RPG, seriously.

Just my opinion of course, but these multi-player topics about Elder Scroll games should be locked down harder and faster than the "Can I add mods for XBOX" threads.

I don't know, maybe because once you make it multiplayer, it becomes The Elder Scrolls: The Wrath of Lich King?

And the role-play part of "Role Playing Game" will be lost to obscurity, making it "massively Multiplayer Equipment-Dependent Great-Plan-Requiring Money-Depleting Online Game"?
So any multiplayer RPG is a wow clone? Oh okay, damn, my eyes have been opened. So many games ripped off wow before it was even released. I just wonder why they specifically ripped off wow though, when there was so many other rpgs to choose from. Damn, now that i think about it, every game in history copied from wow. Even final fantasy, skeletons totally copied from wow. Stupid wow, it's wow's fault that every game nowadays is wow.

Do you people actually think for one second about what multiplayer in this game would be like before you make these stupid threads?

Having co-op would be a disaster. For one the game would be made instantly ludicrously easy, requiring a complete overhaul of the difficulty system; and that's not even mentioning how the other person in your game is free to kill whoever they want, steal whatever they want and overall just ruin your game world. How would death be handled? The dialogue system would have to be completely reworked, the friendly fire system would have to be changed, it would take a colossal amount of effort and have a horrible impact on the single player game.

Having player verses player in a game with one shot stealth kills and around 90% damage reduction would be an even bigger disaster. Not to mention the fact that stealth wouldn't even work in PvP since, you know, you can actually see the people crouching around.

It would ruin the game, which is exactly why they haven't included it, and exactly why they should never include it. The day they cater to people like you and add such pointless features to their games is the day I stop buying them.

Please, no multiplayer in any Elder Scrolls game or even any other Bethesda game like Fallout. I've been playing Elder Scrolls for a long time now and I love that there's no multiplayer option bogging down the game and taking anything away from the single player experience. I mean, i love multiplayer games just as much as the next guy but the Elder Scrolls series is my favorite gaming series and I and many other long time fans are happy without the online option. It's nice to enjoy a game like this by myself without having to worry about and feel like I'm missing out on something by not hopping into a multiplayer lobby all the time. There are plenty of great multiplayer games out there for people to enjoy. I love Elder Scrolls games the way they are..

Hmmm...multi-player would be really really bad combat wise. It's already too easy to kill things in the 30's so 2 people would be very boring apart from all the other issues already mentioned. But...I would not be opposed to some form of on-line trade with friends although that might sound better than what it would be in practise. The good news is you can at least chat to friends while playing via the steam interface.

Why do people keep asking this. We need to make a sticky on every board about why no Multiplayer in Tes games. All i can say is it would kill the whole idea behind these games and why they are made. People saying it won't ruin these games don't know anything about Tes. I don't want any part in multiplaying smack talk killing my game.

As if the game wasn't easy enough with one player.

Because Bethesda doesn't do multiplayer games. There is a separate studio for that. Hopefully they will release some information about what they are working on.

If you want to discuss multiplayer, use this thread: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1320106-official-tes-multiplayerco-op-thread/
