Why is there no multiplayer?

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 7:51 pm

You know, Bethesda really should of put like a co-op compaign in the game, or atleast online PvP. I mean come on. I really enjoy this game and the rest of the elder scrolls games, but seriously. Playing ohur after hour by yourself talking to the game get kind of irritating sometimes. Because You sit there hoping that you could have someone that could help you kill dragons AND talk to you. But Really, why wouldn't they add that?

Bethesda does not do multiplayer. Personally, I think multiplayer would ruin the TES series. It wouldn't work.

Imagine balancing pvp for this game XD, like 1 shot sneak attacks, or perma stagger dual destruction cast.

Because multiplayer in a TES game is a horrible idea. It would force Bethesda to completely change the dynamics of their game design. Or, failing that, it would be implemented extremely poorly because they didn't.

Sahrot... Yol Spaan!

Do you like it? It's my own Dragonshout I use whenever a thread on mutiplayer comes up. Translates as Mighty Flame Shield, roughly.

They apparently looked into it, couldn't find a satisfactory way of making it work without impacting the single player experiecne negatively and chose not to waste resources on trying to implement it.

Mind teaching it to me? I have plenty of Dragon Souls to spare, if necessary.

It would not ruin the game, it is a feauture that would need to be unoficial, for example trough a mod and private servers, because the changes you would need to make in the game would be a nightmare to implement, from a dev pov.

Look at the present issues with the game. And imagine that on a Co-op foremat. It would be a disaster !!

I don't know, maybe because once you make it multiplayer, it becomes The Elder Scrolls: The Wrath of Lich King?

And the role-play part of "Role Playing Game" will be lost to obscurity, making it "massively Multiplayer Equipment-Dependent Great-Plan-Requiring Money-Depleting Online Game"?

The only viable multiplayer I could see working for this is offline co-op, but I don't see how it could be jump in jump out style. It would have to be a completely separate world seeing as the world levels with you so, my level 10 buddy would get wrecked by the number of Dragur Deathlords on my level 50+ world. I just don't see how it could work.

What some people are missing when op says multiplayer, he doesnt mean massive multiplayer, like Skyrim conversion to mmo, but the possibility of instead of having a follower for example to play with a friend.

And it would only work for local or system link play, so you could justly flog the offender who screws around in your game.

He DID say "at least online PvP", which is ridiculous in a game where you can make a 58 million % Fortify One Handed. While playing with a friend would be fun, playing a game in which there is no definite goal (you can ditch a quest halfway, for example) may (not always) ruin the experience. S/he wants to go here, you want to go there. S/he gets in your magic, s/he did something you don't want to do right now, etc-etc

It would certainly be better than the Follower, yes, but multiplayer is not the solution for that particular aspect

Well I havent tested this mod yet, but a quick google search and I found this http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3592

About mob scaling, you would need to team up with your high lvl friend, whats the point of playing online, in his hosted world, if you arent going to play with him?

Third party mods can do whatever they like. My final prediction for that mod is that it will be terrible.

check out my sig

No matter how much co-operation is involved being level 10 in a level 50 world will break the game for that level 10 player.

It seems that video game makers are required to add a multiplayer option to their games these days. I am glad that TES hasnt gone down that route. It doesnt need it.

Multi-player is not the game experience Bethesda is looking to cater to with the Elder Scrolls series. There might be a Zenimax MMO title based on the world, like WoW being a continuation of the Warcraft universe, but if they did that it would likely mean the end of the single player game (anyone seen a Warcraft 4 mentioned?!)

I could see an option on the console for Player 2 to control a follower/companion, an option I've seen in some other single player console RPGs, although not very well done. Bethesda would have to improve their 3rd person camera even more to make it work though.

Because they can't be bothered to write a netcode for a game that was coded to be for single-player.
