Apparently, the practice is more abundant in Vietnam & China. There is only really one traditional dish in Korea that involves dogmeat and it's a type of soup. I find snail & frog eating just as disguting as some find eating dogmeat, but apparently the europeans even ate Cats during the black plague epidemic ages.

During sieges they'd let their dogs out to feed on the corpses and fatten them up before butchering the dogs themselves and having a proper meal, you'd also have pay extraordinary prices for the privilege of eating rat

All of the anecdotal info notwithstanding.... really, people just need to not get their IRL knickers in twists over in-game conventions. The reason we play games like these is BECAUSE they aren't (more or less....) like real life....

Ever ate frog legs? They are pretty tastely, but not much on them.

Snails cooked in a nice garlic and herb butter are rather tastely. Just enjoy them without thinking about what you are eating.

Well, you can't really comment on the ethic of eating Dogmeat untill you have tried, no?

I've tried snails and frog legs. Not my cuppa thanks. I won't try dog or cat.... but I have eaten horse (long story, and many years before I had horses of my own....) - I know people from various countries where dog and cat are accepted protein, and it's likely from their descriptions of it, I wouldn't like it.

However.... if I were very very hungry, and dog or cat was the ONLY possible option.... I'd likely kill it and eat it. You do what you have to do....

Skyrim is a war torn country where the majority of people can hardly keep body and soul together. Yes, there's plenty of game out in the wilderness but they belong to Jarls and besides, not many city dwellers can use a bow. So they have to eat what they can afford or die. The same goes for bandits. They're holed up in a cave or some ruins miles away from civilization. If they can't find any food nearby they have to improvise. You won't find dog meat in the Jarl's palace but you will find it in the grey quarter.

The problem with the "western world" is that they are spoiled and have no concept of the hardships that exist in the world. Would you let your family starve to death when they could survive a while longer by eating a dog or some other animal on your forbidden foods list? To a hungry person a dog = food = life. If that upsets your fragile constitution I'm sorry.

It's just a game. Skyrim is a brutal location in Tamriel.

Yes its a game, yes other countries eat it and yes my dogs are my kids.

No I would not hurt my dogs for my family to survive, because they ARE my family.


Skyrim is a harsh land and you do what you can to survive, but you can purchase other types of meats for the same price as dog. I just don't see the need to toss it in the game since it was not in Morrowind or Oblivion.

While I am the type of person to eat a thick steak while someone is being autopsied, I just cannot stomach the sight of seeing dog or horse meat; even if its in pixel format.

Korea or whatever country may consume it, but I live in a country were consumption of it, is considered disgusting.

Have you ever eaten Pizza with Salami in it? Then you've probably have consumed horse meat already. Get over it. It's not like the game forces you to eat it. And I suppose you live in a country where eating human meat is considered not disgusting?

And thats were your going wrong. Dogs are not your kids and never will be, they are canine quadrupeds not humans. They will never be children, and only ever will be pets no matter what you think or how you act with them. As an owner of a dog for over 10 years, I get extremely peeved when people start acting like animals are children or humans. They are animals and always will be, molly coddling them and treating them like people is why half the people with dogs cant control them properly. You are the leader of their pack, not their mother.

And ALL animals are food sources. You learn that fast in the military when MRE's are in short supply. And I find people who treat dogs like fashion accessories or children as disgusting.

No I don't eat any type of sausage, its gross.

For the hundredth time I know it is a game, but even its a game some people may find it gross.







To each their own. They are my kids and always will be. If people find that offensive, oh well. And you are making accusations on a person you do not know much less their dogs. All animals can be considered a food source, but people do have a right to choose not to eat and what to eat. This does fold into my game too. I choose not to it and find it gross to even be in the game.

Its a cultural thing.

Please remind yourself that your preferences and hang-ups are cultural, not natural.
You were taught that this kind of meat is not kosher, so you wont eat it.

Meanwhile there are parts of the world where these types of meat are a welcome part of the diet.
I myself come from Europa where we dont see any problem in eating horse meat, and I have to tell you, its good meat.

Skyrim is a harsh environment. It makes sense for people to eat instead of starve.
There is nothing instrinsically wrong with those types of meat.

I have knowingly eaten dog in China, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. It's not bad, if a little chewy. I've eaten horse here in the UK and in France and Belgium. I've had kangaroo, snake, grasshoppers and countless others that might be considered strange or in poor taste. Every animal is food for someone. Get over it and don't be so narrow-minded.

Oooh, never had alligator. I imagine it's much like crocodile, though, and I've eaten plenty of that. I'll put it on my list...

Well... It's midevil times and completely different culture than your own. They eat and use what is available to them as a means of survival. It has nothing to do with a lack of morals or anything. I'm a huge dog person. I have raised and trained dogs most of my life. They are family to me. However, I also understand that some cultures don't value pets as much as I do. Some even use certain animals, even dogs, much like we use cattle. It's not wrong, just different and something I will never indulge in. Sorry if I sound a bit troll like. I just can't stand close minded people who see their views and beliefs to be the only right way. Sorry again if I looked too far into this. In the end, its just a game. No real animals or people were harmed.
