Splitscreen is often the difference between me buying a game on release day or waiting until I can get it for half price pre-owned, which nowadays is only 2-3 months, I done it for crackdown, Ill do it for dead rising, Ill do it for this game to. I dont care if I lose a small proportion of my FOV, I dont care if it means waiting longer for a game and content limitations is no excuse (see borderlands).
With a split screen game I end out spending hours trawling the internet for info, getting myself excited for release day. I feel sick when I hear a splitscreen game Im looking forward to has been delayed, its like having to go home and tell my kids they have to wait for christmas this year and when I finally get that game, even if its sub-par I *will* enjoy that game, I can get a few beers in, sit back with a few mates and really get involved in the game, victories taste sweeter when youve got someone to high five, In left 4 dead I will risk my life for the person sat next to me, Im a better friend than to leave them to die even though the characters themselves dont have much of a back story I feel instantly attached to them because I can literally reach out and touch the person playing.
I accept that this comment won't change the minds of people who outwardly hate splitscreen and I know splitscreen makes no sense on pc but what it will do is hopefully enlighten those who dont understand, re-iterate to the devs why splitscreen is such an important part of gaming and how it can massively improve games and maybe eencourage a few other people who feel the same as me to not go out and line the pockets of M$ or whoever on release day but wait a little longer, get the game for cheaper and make a point about something we love, consider it a "vote" on its own it might not do much but if enough of us get together it can make a real difference
(also yes I would be willing to pay a small fee for them to make it into DLC and save precious disk space)
