I suddenly feel less guilty about a certain assassination...

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 12:17 pm

Just finished playing through the DB questline with my illusionist/thief.

1. Plant a powerful Daedric dagger on Vici's husband.
2. Quietly eliminate the guy who stands behind them during the speech.
3. Wait unseen until Vici begins her speech.
4. Cast Fury on husband.

Result: Vici is brutally gutted by her husband at her wedding reception (execution animation and everything) who is then torn apart by the rest of the wedding guests.

Agreed. But it's almost like he expected you to do so, no matter what he threw at you. Rather excepting of his fate, as a man in his position. I actually respected the way he handled himself. No pleading or trying to bribe. One small request, that had nothing to do with his own demise.

I remember roaring through his ship in a blood lust, preparing to revel in his cowardice as I finally brought the judgement of the stormcloaks upon him, and then being so taken aback by his demeanor and his generousity that it was the second kill I regretted making for the Dark Brotherhood (first being the Khajiit mage. I hate killing Khajiit)

You know you'd think the Optimus Primes or whatever they're called had never heard of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynette_Fromme and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sara_Jane_Moore. If they had they'd have realized that a failed assassination attempt just encourages the next one.....

I killed her and her Hubby(leave no witness), took my Trophies and left. When you are part of the DB you have to look past innocent and see them as just another target, if you let that cloud your judgment it will get you killed.

A conscience is something you can't afford in the Dark Brotherhood.

Just remember back to when you were inducted: the first lesson you learned was that it doesn't matter what the mark did. They may be completely innocent. The point is that your kill when ordered to- nothing else matters.

A contract is a contract, after all.

LOL Brilliant! I have to try that on a new playthrough! My first toon used a bow, my 2nd toon killed Astrid and my current character just used the Gargoyle. lol

I know right? I was like OMG he's a nice guy, and my 1st character (my Nord) actually hesitated at first and told him that she would consider his request. Now, my current Breton, she told him straight up, The Dark Brotherhood does not "do favors" LOL

That's exactly what I think. If you commit to the DB, then you kill your mark and don't think about it twice. I also felt for Narfi or the other so called "innocent targets", but my current character follows the Tenets and kills for Sithis and the Night Mother. No questions asked, no 2nd guesses, no remorse, no pity. It is what it is. LOL

That reminds me of a quest in either Morrowind or Oblivion, where you have to sneak into a guys house, get into a ventilation duct just above a fire place and drop a mosses head on your mark when he comes home and sits down to read lol

It was Oblivion. I remember trying to sneak upstairs. I think there was a hidden space inbetween the walls or something. The poor bastard! lol

Moose's head. Not mosses's head. A moss head is about the size of a pin head, wouldn't do any damage at all unless the guy had an allergy.

Besides, it was a minotaur head....

General Stats>Crime. Should be at the top and has bounties for each hold.

Nope. XBox 360, and under crime from the top are "Total Lifetime Bounty", "Largest Bounty", and then the rest are various other crime stats but not a single thing stating bounty such as "The Pale Bounty" or "Current Bounty (Winterhold)" etc. Did my payoff of 750 gold remove the bounty there? Or did I just waste the money because all it does is pay off that one guard to look the other way? How could I tell from the statistics page? After all, even if I'm at no bounty anywhere again, my "Total Lifetime Bounty" and "Largest Bounty" are not going to become zero. Is this just a console thing? Or is it that I have payed it off and there would be a new line if and when I got any other bounty with that beside it?

And you know those three Thalmor in Markarth that roam Understone Keep? Well I strolled in and did a soul trap + time slow + backstab + spin and kill the other two + sheathed weapon and waited for the guards. They came and arrested me for "crimes against Markarth" with an option to 1) bribe (471) 2) I'd rather die 3) pay fine (40 gold) 4) go to jail. I paid the 40 gold. It was worth it. Apparently Thalmor are worth just over 13 gold each. That's just under three chickens (a chicken is worth 5 gold).

Several reactions:

Tacitus: "Oh dear. The poor fellows."
The Jarl's Housecarl: "You someone who can get things done. I like that." (typical)
The orc smith from town (looking at the corpse of the leader): "Don't bother. He's better off now."

By which I mean Miss Vici, the Emperor's cousin.

The East Empire Trading Company is modeled on the British "East India Company". So yeah, corruption, oppression, exploitation, and execution of rivals (external and internal) are par for the course for anybody with a position higher than "dock worker".

I actually felt rather guilty helping them fight off the competition in Windhelm, but I'm an Imperial soldier. I figured it would hurt Ulfric enough that it was worth allowing those parasitic merchants to take another bite of the Empire's honor.

It only shows up if you have a bounty. Otherwise you see what you describe. Next time you get a bounty, immediately look at that page and you'll see it listed right there at the top.

Heh, I have a habit of reaching out for help before realizing I can find out myself. I never seen a "The Pale Bounty" or other such line because I never got one until that forced scripted one. Even then, I just accepted it as unavoidable (after numerous attempts to hop off the bridge, go back into the building, or invisibility prior to the trigger point) and so had not looked into the crime tab before encountering a guard on the way out of town and using the thieve's guild given option to pay off at half price.

I had to actually test it by saving and then intentionally standing up in broad daylight to kill someone (I'm a Shadowmage, dealing death where the victim actually knows what hit them is against my nature) in Dawnstar. I did so within sight of a guard and immediately checked that screen. Sure enough, right above the "Total Lifetime Bounty" I saw my first hold bounty ever in Skyrim. I recall scoffing at the waste of a perk in lockpicking to "not be seen" as nobody attempting to break and enter ought to be doing so without having made sure nobody is nearby to see anyway. Thanks anyhow.

"Guilty?"

That word sounds vaguely familiar. What's it mean?

If somebody wants somebody else dead so badly that they perform a taboo ritual, you know that the target isn't innocent.

Or that the person who performed the Black Sacrament was a sociopath. Either/or.
