Well then. At least TWO of the people posting in this thread have missed the joys of $1k/ton hay and vets that charge a minimum of $250 just for a "farm visit"....

This isn't a fair competition unless you exclude Shadowmere.

I'm sure it wasn't plough horses, but destriers they were going for.

Yeah, I know. However.... it's still over-muscled, short-legged, too-much-hair.... And besides.... the destriers of the Medieval era WERE plowhorses when the knights finally went home.

I love the Clydes. They're sooooo calm, yes the ground does tend to vibrate when they move, and it's even moreso when you're close to one of the 8 horse hitches.... I was bummed when the new owner of Anheuser Busch chose not to continue the holiday ads with the Clydes....

Well.... I've been underneath my horse - literally (my fault, not his: was taking him somewhere I should have known better than to go) - with a hoof landing right on my chest (ONLY time in my life I've ever been happy for "extras" there....) He was about 2/3 the size of a Clyde of same age, so yeah.... IF one of them ever got annoyed you'd likely want to be somewhere else.

But, on topic.... after thinking about it, I really think the "prettiest" horse in game is the dapple grey from Riften.

It used to be that all the beer companies, not just Busch, had a hitch. I worked one summer with the Michelob Belgians. One of their boys was 18.2, which is flipping ginormous. Still, I'd rather work with the big boys than with a little bitty ill-tempered Arab. ANY horse is big enough to squash you against a wall or kick your brains in. The difference between 800 lbs and 1600 is the difference between big enough to squash you and big enough to squash you.

Q.F.T. When my paint was a baby, I helped out at the stable where we kept him. I mucked stalls, cleaned water barrels, fed, acted as vet assistant - you name it I did it. One of the mares was a PURE you-know-what when she was in heat. I finally took to carrying a pitchfork when I went into her stall. Unfortunately, though she wasn't big, she was snake-fast.... and I didn't dodge as fast as I should have. I was bruised like I'd been in a 50-car non-terminal pile-up....

I used to ride as a kid and always ended up on some huge cobby/draught horse type, so I am fond of the horses in Skyrim. I don't use them though - they're more hassle than they're worth. I like the dapple greys, though - I have a soft spot for greys.
I used to ride a Norwegian Fjord pony at one point - Heidi she was called. Would have been nice to see something like that in the game as they are a genuine Nordic breed.

The black horse.

It's a slimming color.

I love the bulkier look of horses in Skyrim, you cant expect a sleek skinny crap horse to survive the harsh weather xD

Side note: All you horses are nothin to my bud, 18 hand high Percheron draft horse with black fur and a nice white spot on his forehead

Our winters are harsh (like Skyrim). Our horses didn't have any issues.... in fact, even though they had covered sheds, they spent MANY snowstorms out IN the snow....

Anybody know how to dismiss a horse? I have Shadowmere reappearing every time I fast travel and it's just a little creepy.

Skyrim is the northern most province, I doubt you'll see a lot of skinny/sleek horses in the northern parts of Norway irl xD

You can't. And you can't kill her in this game. I don't know what to tell you - you can run her off a cliff and then never go back to the pool by the Sanctuary where she respawns.... but I don't know if that stops her showing up when you fast travel or not.

Though referred as the same horse, in Oblivion she is well...a she, and a male in Skyrim...weird xD

Couldn't you buy another horse and then kill that one?

The horses in Skyrim could be a lot worse. The ones the historical Vikings used were like the modern icelandic ones:

Someone in full plate armor trying to ride one would break the poor thing.
