Is anyone else extremely annoyed with Maven Black-Briar?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:18 pm

Strange. I found her to be quite sweet, if a little wishing for greater, darker power.
And if I could of, I probably would have married Ingun Black-Briar, just so she could use me as her test subject, hehe.

Well, each to her own.

I already killed Ingun in my game. She is just plain evil, if you ask me.

I don't get why y'all kill NPCs. Are they annoying? Yes. Are some of them evil? Yes. But why bother to kill them?

I killed her because I don't like her. It's just like killing the Adoring Fan in Oblivion over and over again... Just don't like him, and it's funny...

I do play as an Argonian which has Sithis part of their religion. Sithis = Dark Brother = Assassin = Killing.

Maven? Nah, I'd tap that. At least you know where you stand with her. The one person in Riften I do find annoying is Talen-Jei. He'll greet me with, "You have some nerve coming here after what you did to keerava!" followed by, "What can I get for you, m'lord?"

If I run upstairs looking for Maven, he bounds after me like I'm some riffraff lowlife from the Ratway. Hey, who gave him the three amethysts for his stupid wedding band? I swear, when he says, "Ours is to smile at your passing," which I take to mean he would like to see me dead, I'd like to say to him, "Is that a matched set of belt, boots and luggage in genuine Argonian leather I see in my future?"

I find Maven's son way more annoying. He is so arrogant and reckons he's the greatest swordsman ever. I tried pounding on him with a warhammer for a while but all he does is cower in a corner.

You mean Harrald? He's not Maven's son, he belongs to the old Jarl, Laila Law-Giver. Both of her kids are still there for some reason.

You're supposed to be irritated by her. Not everyone is going to be nice in the game.
Yeah, because practically everyone in the game is super friendly to you. Nazeem, Delphine, Lilith from Whiterun, thane Erikur from Solitude, Radiant Raiments, the guards, the kids, ...

I hate Maven too and sadly, cannot kill her but I did cause trouble for her.

1: Fail the first few Thieves Guild Questlines (Like burn all Bee hives)
2: Kill Maven's son and daughter (They are killable. Sadly, Maven's husband isn't)
3: Pickpocket Maven's keys (Kinda funny; she wont be able to unlock her house door, if she tries to enter it when you are in Riften)
4: Kill the Leader of the Black-Briar-Meadery (It seems like he supports her)
5: Help the guy who is selling Black-Briar-Mead for very cheap. (He steals her mead thus the money she makes goes down because of him)
6: Kill Frost. (Prolly best option cause this'll effect Maven and the other guy who wanted that horse. That other guy is almost as bad)
Hm. Good ideas you got there. I already did 5 and 6 'though (well, I didn't kill Frost. Besides, can't you just keep the horse by killing that guy?). Does it have any consequences when you fail some TG quests? Well, I'll fail them anyway, I don't want to help Maven in any way. At all.

"Ours is to smile at your passing," which I take to mean he would like to see me dead

No, I think this means something along the lines of 'we are happy to see that you've dropped by - passing by makes us smile' type thing. it is not meant as a negative taunt ... just fyi.

PS: Yes, I'm inclined to think Maven was deliberately made essential - she probably represents some ideal woman for a character or quest developer (probably the same developer who came up with eating decomposing flesh, amongst other unpleasant stuff - most likely taking joy from all the discontent she inspires) :P

I kinda hate that glitch. "Ours is to smile at your passing." means he likes then the other means he's mad at you. Gets very annoying when he goes back and forth but I do like him. He is my Egg Brother afterall.

Only when Madesi says it, lol. It can be interpreted both ways. Taren-Jei is being borderline insolent.

I wasn't annoyed. How big of a fish you are, is relative to the size of the pond you occupy. Maven wants to corner the mead market with her swill, and so she did... but the TG outgrows Maven, not the other way around.

Delvin Mallory sent me out on a Bedlam job in Riften. Who did I rip off first? Maven, of course. :D

You know what I want to do... Get Chrysamere and see if Maven's evil can protect her from the Holy Blade.

No, he's referring to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hemming_Black-Briar, the pompous twit. I rather like http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Ingun_Black-Briar. Her descriptions of poisonings are charming, and she's cute, as well. Although I must admit that if Maven is any indicator of how Ingun will look in twenty years, well...
