My Battle Mage uses a variety of spells, mixed with dual-sword wielding, and decent archery. Got him to level 50 last night while mainly using the bow.

My thief/assassin is pretty much all archery and dual-daggers. He does have the healing spell that gets used.

I dual wield swords, sword and shield, and destruction magic + sword most often.
Conjuration and Bows sometimes.

Bash 'em with a shield, then split their skull with a war axe.

I don't think there's really a need to stick with just one, there are enough points to specially in at least two without loosing efficiency

i havent spent a single point in magic, i'm mainly dual wielding swords and invested points in archery as well, so i keep shooting them 'till they get close then it's beheading time ;)

with my other character i'm a sneaky archer, who takes out his sword if the enemies gets close enough (but they rarely do)

I have multiple characters. My favorite is my mage (pure mage, no weapns no armor), followed by thief (archer/ dagger and longsword), two handed fighter (two handed, heavy armor, block, smithing to 50). I also really like the additions to the block tree and sword and shield is very fun. Archery also got some nice additions. I wish there were more spells and I miss spellmaking but I still dig my mage and I really like how he basically doesn't need anything except what he wears.

Both of my characters are mages, although one makes use of Archery as well. I have Teekeeus (pure mage) and Milos-Ei (conjurer/mystic archer).

I love bound sword with auto soul trap best combined with a shield or a spell.

I like to duel-weild my Deadric swords to tear my enemies to shreds. I enjoy bows for hunting the big game like bears and sabre cats. Have never really enjoyed magic in any game or form, even the StarWars games see me using blasters over the force any day, although I did try playing mage for a bit, felt a bit like a sith lord dressed in hooded Thalmor robes using Shock.

I cleave people's heads in with a battleaxe. I used a warhammer at first, but I changed my mind when I found out how few sorts there were of them.

I've played most styles. Fully perked sneak 'n' snipe archery is great fun, but is fairly slow. Sneak 'n' stab one-handed is very tense, because you have very little room to fall back if detected. Illusion is awesomely powerful and, when it works, a real blast; I like to mix in Runes and Necromancy to soften up the enemy. Atromancy is actually pretty boring because your power is so great, but if you don't want to be in Sneak all the time it's a viable alternative.

From what I've seen, melee builds are very equipment-dependent, which means Smithing and probably Enchanting. My personal experience is that non-Sneak characters are very susceptible to dying to specific magic attacks, but none of my melee characters is very high, so this problem may dissipate.

I also have trouble with Destruction mage. Battlemage is okay because you have something to fall back on if your magicka fizzles, but until you are game-breakingly powerful it seems difficult to support mage armor and nukes from a single magicka pool.
