Rebuilding Helgen

Then there should be ground lots where you, the player, can decide what should be there. Be it a blacksmith, a general trader, an alchemist, a fletcher, a clothes store, a residence, a farm, an inn, and whatever I've forgotten could be added. Whatever you put there should affect what the city turns into. Like, if you add just shops and one inn, it'll be a trading hub and spawn more trading caravans. If you add residences, it'll become a NPC heavy area with a lot of side quests. If you add farms, you can own your own and make a steady income, etc.

And if you add just inns, well, consider Las Vegas of Skyrim.

Due to its strategic location, Helgen might be suitable for a customhouse where people coming from Cyrodiil have to pay a toll to enter Skyrim.

I forget the name of the main village in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, but it's the first one you go to with Ezio's uncle. One of the coolest little side features of that game was the ability to completely rebuild the village.
That was in Assassins Creed II, in Brotherhood you rebuilt Rome. Unless I'm mistaken.

I'd also like to rebuild Helgen, it would be cool if you could be the "Mayor" or something.

Kinda. You can wander around with the camera by issuing TFC in the console at the very beginning at have a good eagle-view of the town before it's destroyed by Alduin. Looks like there are no shops nor smiths and such, actually it doesn't look like it qualifies as a "town".

I was asking just because of the discussion earlier in the thread about who should govern Helgen,

I think it would be great when you finish Civil War questline in a position of Legate/Storm-Blade and you will be given a message delivered to you by courier (due to lack of recorded voice acting) ordering you to help rebuild the fort and become its "leader"/ ordering you to set up a camp there and build a new fort on the ruins of the old one for the Stormcloaks (alse ending like a "leader")

Kvatch says hi.

Yea, that's a reminder that Beth just loves destroying entire cities and leave them burn for a few years waiting for modders to do something about it !

Seems like a classic that bethesda ruins a big city just to let modders make a huge mod to make it rebuildable.

So I have 114,000 gold on my main character and the thought just occured to me that I could use a TON of that gold that's just sitting around in a chest in my house to rebuild the city of Helgen.

I forget the name of the main village in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood,

That's just it... You forget. It's just a gimmick.

Yeah this would be a great idea. And maybe make you like the Jarl of Helgen? The thing that annoys me about the civil war quests,is that after it finishes you get no real recognition. This way after you finish the story on either side, you could get a nice little bonus: rebuild the city and its yours:D

I like that idea a lot, actually.

Why couldn't you be the Jarl? There's no law somewhere that says the Jarl has to sit around on his throne doing nothing all day is there?

Thats the big disappointment about skyrim. Is that the jarls don't do [censored]. They just sleep (do they even go to the bathroom?) and sit on their thrones all day and do nothing.

Because it would still BE your town. Room for a market, some stores... there's already an Inn...

It would be kinda cool.

I would have to say this is one of Bethesda flaws when it comes to the ETS.

There are quite a few games out there that a village, a town, a city is destoryed but after a certain point in the game it reverts back to what it was or the player can help rebuild it.

In Oblivion, Kavatch was desytroyed and so many players were pissed it could not be rebuilt. Then Skyrim comes along, Helgen is destoryed and you would assume Todd and his team would take the advice many players wanted to rebuild the city-nope.

While destorying a city is good for the story, leaving it a smoking pile of rubble just annoys the player (raises hand). I would gladly give the Jarl any amount of coin he needed to rebuild the place.

I really hate it when a place is destoryed and it stays that way. This is not a book or a movie, this is a game, the option to rebuild a city, a village should always be avilable to the player.

Todd, seriously stop living in the 1980s of gaming and get with the times! I as a fan of the ETS games is tired of seeing a place destroyed and nothing can be done to fix it even though I have more then enough gold to do so.

Helgen would be a nice place to rebuild the blades back to their formal glory. They can have economic system to have money to hire soldiers in refitting, as they grow the Thalmor start attacking them. Even bring back worship of Talos, But maybe it's just me thinking the guy talking in White run in front of Talos sounds like the prophet in the Knights of the nine DLC that was in Oblivion.

It'll be the same as Kvatch. You'll never get a chance to repair it without mods.

There are 9 holds with 9 Jarls. Unless they wrote in a storyline where you overthrew one of them you can't be a Jarl. Jarls are like governors. You can be governor or Utar but not governor of salt lake city.
Give it a different name like... Not sure what would be appropriate but lord or something.

They could make it the 10th hold. Not to complicated

Re-writing lore isn't very popular.

I have always suggested that they add this as a micelanious quest line into the next DLC, though I didn't think of the idea of having to pay for it. I jsut thought it would be nice to get the Bandits out of there so the Jarl could rebuild it. This is a pretty good idea to get rid of all the excess gold, seen as once you own all the houses.... there really is not much need for mony at that point. What is the end game though?? Do you then govern Helgen?? Or does it become a private compound for you and your followers?? I liked the idea of getting it rebuilt to add additional side quests once residents move back in.

You rebuild Helgen. This becomes your main flagship city. Your then goal is to take neutral territories, fortify and stock them, build and maintain an army, and take territory. In the process, you can make alliances with Jarls or fly solo and be against everyone. Each city has a realm they hold. The territory they control is color coded. You will need to attack and defend territories. Courirers will give you a note when certain territories are under attack so you can allocate forces there. To influence these battles you can take part in them as well, particularly battles for the cities (Windhelm, etc.)

Yes this goes against whatever loregarble there is, but pretty much ensures an infinite game with a point to explore and acquire gold.
