Why are people already talking about Elder Scrolls VI

We just got Skyrim 2 months ago! The next Elder Scrolls will not be out probably for another 4-5 years!

[...]When did video games become a simulation tool? (Which is a general question which I would like anyone to answer.)

Since ROLE playing games were invented. Or simulation games for that matter.

"If actions speak louder than words, then why is the pen mightier than the sword?"

since writing, speaking, and reading are actions themselves.

sorry. Saw it, and couldn't resist.

In fact, very old RPGs had couldn't be played any other way.

For completely different reasons.

Role playing games have little to do with simulation; (and IMO the less the better, I certainly don't play them to pretend to live there).

I think it was mainly a misunderstanding by the later generation, who grew up wanting to make their own games.

It's a pretty legitimate complaint, since this issue wasn't as prevalent in Oblivion. My first though upon equiping a bow and arrow was "how exactly did they miss this glaring issue with all the attention to detail they put into this world!?". What are you going to spend more time looking at, the tools tied on to the side of a wagon or the back of your character? It's common sense, but I guess that's something people seem to lack nowadays.

isn't, you know, being able to see yourself from behind the bigger immersion breaker here? or do you rp a mad sorcerer deep in his cave controlling the dragonborn through his magic orb?

Awesome!

It's funny, and more to the topic at hand, but for some reason in Skyrim -- except when inspecting bags/barrels/chests and during archery -- I play almost entirely in 3rd person. So I can see where the situation the OP is describing would be annoying and immersion-breaking. Oblivion I play in 1st person, almost exclusively, so the only time I see my character is when I access the menu. (Side note: I really, really like how your character is there in the Oblivion menu screens, and you can zoom in/out and rotate. I was very disappointed that was taken out of Skyrim for some reason).

All that said, if you want to be fully immersed and pretend to "be" your character, I can't see playing in 3rd person -- first person is where it's at. But, if you do play 3rd person, and I do too in Skyrim, then clipping issues are jarring, to be sure.

I don't know the inner details of moving the weapons onto the back of the figure, but I do know from modding experience that it’s near impossible to get every armor to comply with a holstered/slung weapon. In FO3 I would adjust the back to look great with the Shotgun, and then find that the rocket launcher not only clipped, but the deformations I made for the shotgun, mangled the mesh when the rocket launcher was equipped and used.

The models do not have self-collision checks, and I don't know if it’s practical for the weapon nodes to be relocated for every suit of clothes. It’s annoying sure, but I think it is inherent until they up the system requirements quite a bit.

Thank you! Man people like to jump on posts like these here... I am simply concerned with having great gaming experiences, and I'm sure Bethesda are concerned with giving them to me and the rest of the community.

As the good fellow quoted above pointed out, one of this game's main objectives was to create a detailed and immersive environment. Unlike Oblivion, Skyrim's races are all quite similar in size, and the bows and quivers are all similar shapes. I find it difficult to believe that the issue in question couldn't have been improved upon.
