Weird Things in Skyrim That You Think Only You Do

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:30 am

When fighting a boss enemy as a melee character I will sometimes save before the fight and keep reloading until I get a sweet finishing move to make the battle feel all the more awesome. Also, If my helmet is ugly, I take it off when not in battle. I don't think these things are that wierd, but they're all I can think of.

I usually travel around the map with a horse. But when it's stormy and raining I want to walk in the rain.

I just can not make myself skip past a jar or urn without checking it for gold coins. My last character had over 99K gold, but I would still search desperately for every single coin I could find. I just don't think there will ever be a point where I stop doing this. I want to ... but I just can't.

I do the exact same thing... every urn, chest and bag. If there's gold I grab it!

Eat and sleep everyday.

With my assassin I would lay a nightshade flower on my marks after I killed them. If they were sleeping I would feed on them first.

The weirdest thing I do... I have 1 character play three parts. I created a mage, about level 60 I created a bunch of enchanted gear for sneaking, caught vampirism and played as if it was a completely new character. I didn't use any of my past gear, except the enchanted sneak gear which I made to offset the fact that I was level 60 and had a sneak of 30. After I did the DB and thieves missions I cured vampirism and enchanted a full suit of steel plate armor with fortify 1 hand and health and made a smashy character. Did all the bounty(looking for work...) missions and companion quests. Then threw all the stuff in the 'knights' house and went back to playing my mage as if the other two characters did not exist. Well except that for fluff they all know each other. The assassin works for the mage, and the knight hates them both and is on a quest to kill them. The assassin also buys poison from the mage. He will go to the mage's house, drop off gold and buy poisons. Each has their own house, the mage lives at the college, the assassin at the DB hideout, and the knight in whiterun.

Play dead is dead.

Wow... so you're playing a character with dissociative identity disorder. That's quite intense playing... hahaha

...Which is why you walk around, or carefully manouver your way down the hill/mountain/cliff. Carelessly jumping off cliffs is reserved for fun-to-watch suicides.

'Kay. It seemed too easy anyway. Strolling and actual reverse-mountain-climbing gives more of the "explorer" feel.

Exactly same! lol!

Director`s tools?

But I also sometimes just sit down in a tavern (after getting my follower to take helmet off and do the same) while listening to music...

Yep,Director's tools. I really love that mod. I also have several outfits I switch around be occasion. Armor, casual outfit or two and a formal outfit.

Something I caught myself doing last night, not sure if anyone else does it. I save Black Soul Gems for specialized, unique weapons and armor. If I use one to enchant something, that piece of equipment will be given a unique name, and be placed amongst my favorite/best pieces. I never use black gems for any kind of basic enchantment, and store all of them until my enchantment skill is 100, with all perks taken.

Leave a Nord mead and a flower on the corpses of friendly npcs who recently died in the game (not with skeletons or so).

Fight enemies with the "appropriate" arrows: falmer with arrows made by their archenemies the dwemer, dragons with ancient nord arrows, draugr with ancient nord arrows (because they're undead who're supposed to go into eternal rest already; like their own kind telling them they don't need to guard the tomb anymore), and so on.

Being overly empathic with dragons (at least with this character) and using invisibility potions when visiting a lair with a power word, so the dragon doesn't see me and doesn't get disturbed. (it's part of character development 'though, before she met P'nax she slaughtered every one of them ... she still killed one elder dragon in his lair after the meeting, but suddenly felt terrible about it, went to P'nax to meditate about it and went back to leave flowers and "food" (aka gemstones) in the treasure box (never looted the box either))

Fight wild animals with her fists, so the battle is kinda "fair".

She never uses soul entrapment magic. She does however use up the filled soul gems, so the souls get freed. There are quite a lot of them to be found in the game, and they weigh a lot too.

Only use shouts with dragons and draugr. She follows the Way Of The Voice.

I always leave the money in the Burial Urns. I shall not touch the alms! Potions on the other hand ... The dead can't drink anyway.

I always remove Centurion Cores from the Centurions, and hide them on a good distance from the machine. So nobody would get the stupid idea of 'reviving' a Centurion again. Only time I didn't do it was during the quest in the dwemer ruins below Markarth, because I left it alive (for obvious reasons if you followed the quest well).

Dangerous but interesting quest materials concerning the main quest are stashed in the chest in Breezehome, weapons are stocked in a dresser with a weapon plaque and hunter's bow above it, armor in a dresser not far from that one, clothes and other disguise material in the wardrobe in my room, and so on. Notes, diaries and books which I don't need anymore, or which are deemed too dangerous to the disposition of my character get tossed in the fire of Breezehome.
I'm also hoarding books. I'm trying to collect books which can function as an introduction to the Skyrim country (books about the holds, ...), books which contain information about the main quest and civil quest (books with information about the Aldmeri Dominion, The Great War, The Bear Of Markath and so on), books concerning the political works as my character will get in touch with that anyway (The Wolf Queen & The Real Barenziah collections), and simply romans which are neat to read (Immortal Blood, Wraith's Wedding Dowry, ...)

There's also an ancient Nord ruin somewhere populated with bandits (and draugr further on), who seemed to have had a drinking fest. The whole ruin was littered with empty wine bottles and so on. Being the respectful Nord towards ancestors, I decided to clean the place up and drop all the litter in the pockets of the bandits. It was a ruin with a door which requires a key, so I assume it's a quest-related ruin. Must've been somewhere in the Reach I believe.

My character isn't all that comfortable with the extortion methods of the Thieves' Guild (but she joined so she could become head and reform it), so every time she extorts by breaking things, or steals something, she puts something of equal value in the place. Unfortunately, you can't take a dwemer urn from a ruin with you for some reason, so I decided to get a whole tableware set with bowls included and 'sell' (read: give) it to the shopkeep after selling him enough stuff so he has 0 gold.

Oh yeah, and that "punishment" you got as a quest for the Dibella temple? I did it completely naked (aside from my weapons) and with a Dibella amulet on. It was kinda hard to fight all those forsworn without armor, I really had to rely heavily on my sneak skill.
On that same note, I always wear my Amulet Of Mara when doing a quest for the that divine.

I also always try to cover my tracks when "invading" enemy territory. I hide corpses in dark corners, or throw them in the water/from a cliff so it looks like an accident. After retrieving my arrows of course.

Oh, and every now and then I just HAVE to jump or whirlwind sprint off a high mountain or cliff - just to watch my heavily-armoured Orc warrior fall and tumble down the mountainside like a ragdoll. Also, I sometimes jump off the College bridge just to see if I can hit water when I land and survive. I usually don't.
I do that too. I always try to fall as long as possible. Tried it at High Hrothgar several times - both at the Greybeards' HQ and at P'nax' place- but it is what it is, a mountain. meaning no steep cliffs, and no long falls. Kinda disappointing. Best jump I had until now was the Bard's Leap, unfortunately.

I always do a postcard save where the cam is 3rd person facing my character and they're on the left side of the screen showing only their upper body with the scenery to the right. I started doing this to show which character i'm playing and where i'm at but now i try to pose in front dead dragons and beautiful backgrounds

I wish i could take screenshots and make funny "greetings from skyrim" postcards :P

ha i thought i was alone on that but yea that fixed cam with weapons drawn and on horseback was a bad move imo but i can understand players having problems with it.

I would like if there was a idle look with weapons drawn when not in combat...staffs could be held like walking sticks and warhammers could lean on your shoulders. It would make for some sweet postcard saves :)

I like to Fus Ro Dah random people/creatures as high into the air as I can, then try to hit them with an arrow before they hit the ground. Like a Skyrim version of clay pigeons.

A trol skull worth 5 normal skulls. If the opponent is honorable i put some flowers and his/her shield or wepon on top of him/her

Just today I caught myself out doing something that might qualify for this thread - and I can't believe I'd forgotten I do this. Every couple of "weeks" or so, or certainly after a really hard quest, Lydia and I have a day off. I usually spend that day walking along the river near Riverwood, sitting on the banks having a picnic, taking an occasional gentle swim, and listening to the sounds of nature all around me. No battles are fought, no spells are cast, not even a mountain flower is collected; it's 100% rest. Then, when evening comes on, I walk back to Riverwood, pick up my horse from the lush grassy area near the bridge (it's her day off too) and slowly head back to Whiterun for an early night and a long sleep. I have never done anything like this in a game before, but here it just feels right to take some time off now and then. If I'm going to keep fighting the good fight, I'll sometimes need to rest. And I think I've earned it.

I do the main quest. Always. Maybe not immediatly, but eventually. It feels like everyone else on this site likes to brag about how they avoid doing the main quest.

Whenever I kill an "honorable" opponent such as the occasional warrior who picks a fight with you, I drag him/her off the road, cover them with their shield (if they have one), lay their weapon(s) beside them, and throw some flowers on them. I also brutally slaughter any legionnaire and justiciar I meet in my travels.

I do something similar.

When I kill a humanoid enemy I always make them lay in a respectable position. On their backs arms and legs pointing downwards. Sword & shield next to them.
