Lack of recognition for the defeat of Alduin.

The thing is except for a handful of people noone knows that you are the dragonborn or that you killed alduin. There's no facebook, twitter or CNN in Skyrim so it's to be expected that the common people don't know your face.
You can kill a [censored] dragon and absorb its soul in front of just about everybody in Dawnstar, and the guard will still say "Gotta thinking... pehaeps OIM da dregenbon, jas dunnait yet!"

Y'know, if sombody mods in a "Jean-Luc Picard facepalm" animation, I bet lots of PC players would use it all the time

People know that you're a mage from college, but they don't know about your exploits there. How?

Heck, you can even Shout in Solitude and nobody will even bat an eye, save for covering their ears and send you to jail. I mean, hello? I'm SHOUTING here, ever thought that I'M the Dovahkiin?

With my Dovahkiin, some guards near Whiterun slew a dragon. I just hid behind walls and absorbed the dragon's soul when it died.
I know that most dragons can be defeated by just inviting enough NPCs to a little killing spree, but still, lore wise the Dovahkiin slew the dragons at Whiterun and Kynesgrove. He/she/it deserves some respect for this.

Personally, I love this.

Because:

A ) The citizens of Tamriel aren't following my exploits on TV. It's unrealistic for them to all know what i've done. Only a small handful should know, unless I go around telling people myself, which would actually make for an interesting dialogue option to try and win favour with certain NPCs, or intimidate others.

B ) It means I can go back to roleplaying once the main quest is over without constantly being reminded i'm Dovahkiin, the special one.

I think it's funny how some of the first replies in this thread were people bending over backwards making lame excuses for Bethesda.

Here's a hint: No matter what you do in this game, at best, you'll have the quest-giver give you a congratulations. No one else will recognize you for defeating the dragons, becoming a guild leader, or

even assassinating the Emporer
. It's a Skyrim-wide amnesia affect.

Some MQ spoilers:

Spoiler
Something I think is important to remember is that the MQ ends in Sovngarde, a realm of the dead. Very few would ever guess you went there to fight the god-like dragon Alduin, or that Alduin could go there in the first place. Another thing is that the dragons are still about, making it hard for most people to believe that the situation have changed all that much.

Sure, some more recognition could work, but as I see it the fact that very few people actually knows what happened makes sense. In Oblivion it made sense that many knew it because it happened in front of an entire city.

I would rather have them work on more consequences for choices.

You're the dragonborn, do you need any more recognition?

a mead and sweet roll party would be fine

Guards recognized that you indeed saved the world. That's enough to say they thought about it, and enough to say they said "Eh, screw it"

Why do people keep saying that no one knows what you did? Regardless of wether they should or not they obviously do as people and guards will refer to it sometimes reverently in one breath, then turn in the next breath and insult you. It is not just lack of recognition, but poorly designed, inconsistent dialogue that bugs me.

And I still maintain that if everyone knows at least most of what you did, which the game indicates that they do, then you should get at least a 10% discount permanent effect in all shops.

I mean in Oblivion you got a whole suit of armor and the guards never insulted you, and half the time would say either What do you need Champion? or It is an honor to stand before the Champion of Cyrodill. But they never said anything negative because you had positive reaction overall. Skyrim totally lacks this consistency.
